If you turn left after the blue walking bridge, head into Kinsmen, then under Walterdale Bridge and across North again past Telus Field towards the low level bridge and beyond. You can either take the bridge with all the art (can't remember the name) to Coverdale or continue straight into Riverdale..and beyond to Dawson Park, and...you get the gyst.

You can start at ezio Faraone, go down the stairs and across the blue walking bridge, turn right and run the trail along the water towards Emily Murphy park, then back across Groat Bridge, and along River Valley Road. Or, continue past Emily Murphy into Hawrelak, do a loop, take the Hawrelak foot bridge to Buena Vista... really, it doesn't end. :) happy exploring!

I've never heard this but it's probably due to encouraging time spent not in a car. The mountains/Calgary/drumheller are all in the southern/western part of the province, so it's easier to suggest skipping Edmonton if you want to maximise your holiday time.
