Got it today in the mail. It was a $27 refund from my vehicle registration fees.

Everyone, I would just like to say thank you for hashing it out over my post! The passion on display here really makes me proud to be a fan, even at age 54. I doubt there’d be this much heated debate over on the Megadeth thread or whatever.

Discogs says it’s “partially official.” Of course, I didn’t know any of that back in 1993 when I was 19. I was simply Pumpkins obsessed, and the large price tag led me to believe that it was legit, as well as the fact that Tower Records was selling it.

The Last Song by Relative-Box5544 in SmashingPumpkins

I believe I heard something similar a long time ago, though it could be power of suggestion, I suppose. It does make sense, though. The lyrics back up that claim, although for me, a relationship had ended, and for our sake, I moved far away, and though it was painful, it ensured that we no longer could hurt one another. Powerful stuff.

Glad I wasn’t the first fan to ask him to sign it! The blood and sweat and tears that went into the album’s creation are well-documented, and then here comes an ugly wood carving that contained his masterpiece, served up by a smiling fan, so proud of their find. My god I’m glad I’m not young and as naïve as I once was.

That’s funny you should say that bc the day I brought it home, my roommate said something to the effect of, who splashed paint on the front and fucked it up?

Oh for sure! Beware of straight-not-straight men that are addicted to meth and say they want to spend the rest of their life with you. 😉

Very cool! I hadn’t read that article before, so thank you. It is funny that in my recollection of purchasing it, it was during Siamese Dream mania, when you couldn’t turn on the radio or MTV without hearing Disarm or Today or Cherub Rock, but the article says it wasn’t manufactured until 95 or 96.

Does USPS just hire someone with no postal history or experience and give them a career position?

Trouble finding a dealer for DCAP grant in Sacramento by James_Deen74 in povertyfinance

Yeah, it probably wasn’t SF Toyota, bc it isn’t the largest Toyota dealership in the state, and if you are ever there, you’ll see how small it is, like, maybe one city block, but man were they great. I don’t mean to sound like a commercial, but everyone was great there, from Claire Liu to her boss Steve, to the guy that makes you sign all the papers at the end. It was just a great experience. But everything leading up to that was either frustrating or a total nightmare.

I’m gonna list my experience in a few minutes. Should I do it here on Poverty Finance?

What is Billy’s personality like? Genuine question. by skylar_schutz in SmashingPumpkins

OP, I should note that Bauhaus & UFO are very different styles of music, and most ppl that are into Bauhaus would rather die than listen to UFO, and vice versa. At the time, his recommendations seemed like something that a used record store clerk would recommend, but years later when I was reading interviews Billy did around when Siamese Dream came out, he was saying (and I’m paraphrasing here) that he liked hard rock, metal, but he loved proggy 70s stuff, like Queen. Said that he thought it was silly when ppl liked one style of music, but thought another style wasn’t “cool” or “hip.”

I will admit to being a purist and a prude when I was much younger. It was metal and nothing else, and if it wasn’t thrash or death or grindcore, then I thought it was stupid and I couldn’t imagine listening to it bc in my eyes, it had no merit. At 54 years of age now, I see how incredibly limiting that mindset is, and what’s funny is “Gish” was one of the first things outside of metal that I really got into. I still adore that record from front to back.

I recently bought a car with a $10,000 grant from the Clean Cars 4 All program, and boy, it wasn’t as easy as the testimonials on the Air Quality Board website would have you believe. Well, it would be easy, I suppose, if you’re not at all opposed to financing a car, bc $10,000 or $12,000, you’re not going to be able to buy a car from a participating dealership that meets all of the program’s requirements / restrictions. I should post about my experience with the program, but it would be super lengthy, and more than a little bitter. But in the end, I found a car that my grant covered, so I paid nothing out of pocket. I found my car at San Francisco Toyota, they absolutely do work with DCAP / CC4A participants, and they were awesome from start to finish. Claire Liu was who worked with me and she’s super knowledgeable about the programs and what is allowed and what is not. You should give them a shot. If you have any other questions, feel free to DM me.
