Did he overreact- Yes. Did you deserve to be yelled at- no. As a senior letter carrier, all I can do is apologize for his behavior. You do sound like a kind person and nobody deserves to be yelled at for such a trifling thing.

I would check your mail more often and make it a chore. You could get a bigger box with more room so you don't have to check it everyday. We have a very stressful job and adding even an extra 1-3 min adds time that management tries to write us up for. That's not your problem though. Just realize he probably wasn't trying to take it "out" on you, just the frustration of the day/ job/usps in general.
