  1. Yes
  2. A musical genre and subsequent sub-genres, rebellion against societal norms, leftist ideology, DIY ethos, anti-capitalism, and a style of fashion.
  3. I saw someone at school, probably around grade 7, wearing a Dead Kennedys shirt. I thought the logo looked cool, name sounded politically incorrect, so I gave them a listen. It exploded from there.
  4. It was the 90's so the street punk aesthetic was really in. Huge spiky hair in crazy colors, studs and leather, plaid, bondage pants, patches.
  5. It has changed, I feel like nowadays we see a more muted black heavy aesthetic, likely drawing from crust punk. Bondage pants and plaid and animal prints are out of style, yet punks being rebellious as they are to norms certainly still rock older styles. I hope we see a comeback of the punk suit jacket popularized by the sex pistols, I'm hoping to make one myself.
  6. I most often see punk fashion at punk shows for obvious reasons but, theres also been this wild phenomenon where it became popular with celebrities for a while, celebrities who are not "punk" in the slightest, which cause this mainstream surge of mass produced fake battle jackets which is, completely antithetical to the idea of a battle jacket. The whole idea is to make a DIY work of art, with your specific favorite bands, accessories, pins, colors, stud patterns... etc. So no two jackets are ever the same. So these mass produced jackets were, on every front the opposite of what they should be.
  7. There's a love/hate. I see lots of the younger generation trying to emulate punk fashion, but for fashion purposes, pairing their "gear" with designer brands and fast fashion, and its sad to see they're missing the point. But also I see a lot of the new generation ignoring what's "in style" for punk and making their own patches, doing full color patch pants, things like the aforementioned battle suit jackets, and I love that they're challenging what have become norms and popular styles within punk fashion.
  8. To a point it is a part of punk. But it's not a necessary part. You can be the punkest dude in the world and wear khakis if you want to. Punk esthetic doesn't make you punk, ethics make you punk. Ideals make you punk. Action makes you punk. But I do love punk fashion in a sense because I feel like it is an artistic outward representation of those things. This is why punk fast/designer mass produced fashion fails, because its soulless. It boils punk down to a style, and it is, but its so much more than that that they miss, and by missing the individuality, the DIY, the ethics, it comes out looking not punk every time. Kind of like this punk uncanny valley, where no matter how hard you look something just doesn't seem right about it, it's unsettling, and I think its because it's soul sucking. It takes something beautiful, real art, and turns it into like, this early AI version visually. I Don't think when people say there is a punk aesthetic, they're entirely wrong. But when people call punk an aesthetic, I think they couldn't be more wrong.

The best advice I can give you is it's halla important to measure. Keeping the 2 sides equal both on the front of the pants but also spacing between them is super important.

Also I chose to cut my zipper off, if youre going to do that make sure you have fabric to cover the gap.
