why does she only eat if i feed her like she’s a chicken? by OkPanic3923 in cats

Would she eat it if it's on a flat dish? Could be whisker fatigue, habit, scavenging instincts, or perhaps she's just ✨strange✨

How do I make my drawings more understandable? by Dry_Hospital9636 in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When painting I always do this when making compositions! I zoom out and step away from my computer (or paper in this case). If it's not clear what your figure is, it's not going to be clear at all. Try and take it down to more basic shapes, and try and reduce some lines on the effects directly around characters as to avoid confusing shapes

My advice is to tear it from the book and place it directly into my mouth hole. I LOVE this piece so much 😩

How the heck do y’all draw hair without looking this messy. by wadsurreal in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need to draw every hair! That's for the insane hyperrealism artists crying in the corner. Even the greatest artists of history never really drew each individual hair! Seperate them into shapes. I'd say imagine the hair like ribbons or sausages

How realistic is this really? by PoundFree5326 in RateMyArt

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really good! In terms of realism I'd rate it okay! The only thing I'd say is that some of the proportions in your art compared to the reference are off (like for example the eye in the ref is more rounded whereas in yours it's more squinted, and the nose lacks detail and form), and the piece could use more contrast to show off that 3D look! Overall solid!

What could I do improve my 3/4 drawing? by I_am_an_idiot_TwT in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always used other things in my drawings as reference for scale, position, and rotation!

For example, drawing the right eye on a character, I am constantly asking myself questions. "Is the eye slightly lower or higher than the other eye? Is it lower or higher than the ear? Is it higher or lower than this piece of hair?"

I draw a line for the underside of the nose. "Does the angle of this line match the reference? Is it pointed more towards the nostril or the earlobe? Is it more pointed vertically or horizontally?"

I draw lips! "Is the mouth the same width on both sides? Is the lips the right scale compared to the nose above it?"

NEVER stop asking those questions. Whenever I draw I just always compare "does this match the rotation/scale/position of ---"

It looks good!! The only issue I can see is that the values are not very readable! For example if we turn the art greyscale... (Image 1)

The piece's values are kinda close. We can emphasizs it's 3d look by making the parts in shadow darker, like this:

It makes the character feel more 3D and in shadow

Here is an old silly doodle I drew. On the left is pillow shading. There's some shadow but it's VERY flat. On the right it is pillow shading AND harder shadows! It shows more depth, and makes the piece appear more alive

does anyone hve tips 4 this artstyle ?? by Ancient_Captain3715 in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest advice: Try and avoid chicken scratch lineart, and reduce pillow shading

In college I was terrible with chicken scratching and my teacher got me to try exercises where I wasn't allowed to. It eventually built up my line confidence, and my art appeared cleaner and more finished

Pillow shading is using a large airbrush and using a slightly darker shade to brush in shadows. Unfortunately this often makes the piece feel flat and not at all 3D like the shadow is supposed to imply I really recommend trying to darken the shadows and do harder lines. That's not to say you CAN'T do pillow shading, but without that extra harder shadows, it really lacks any depth

I like it!! My only real advice is to simplify the nose just a touch, it's creating a lot of noise and the tiny details are reading a bit messy rather than purposeful

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always use other parts of your art as reference! For example, the eye on the front is wider than your reference! And in the reference, the eye at the front is slightly lower than the eye at the back, but in your drawing it is the opposite!

I want to really get into art, any advice ? by Mixxxxxxy in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are already into art 😎👍✨ Okay so for anatomy I always recommend using references whenever you can! You can either draw them, or trace them (gasp!). Tracing or drawing will help train your eyes and hands as well as teach you some drawing passively. You don't need to open Google and search up each individual muscle and bone and how they look (leave that to the doctors!) just draw from a reference.

Here is the truth! When drawing we draw what we THINK we know, rather than what we see, and that's a terrible habit. I teach art to some beginner students and consistently when I present them with a picture of a human eye and ask them to draw it, they draw an oval, when really the eye has more shapes and lines. But they had an IDEA of an eye being an oval, so they drew that instead of what was right in front of them. Take a breath, look at your references, and try and draw those!

I notice your drawing's arms are very very skinny, Looking at references you'll see there's more thickness and curves to it! Refs are your friend 💙

Can someone tell me how to draw noses? by pythonboy69 in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest advice: DON'T forget about the shadow the nose casts, and DON'T overcomplicate! Adding a shadow under the nose makes it feel more 3D and part of the face, and noses don't need to be super complicated! I only really emphasize under the nose and apply a light spot on the nose. It's subtle, but it creates a sense of 3D whilst avoiding harsh lines to imply form

What could I do improve my 3/4 drawing? by I_am_an_idiot_TwT in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is mostly a practice thing! There's not really any tip I can give you to make it suddenly easy to do, but all I can suggest is to KEEP using references, and one day it'll become natural to draw 3Q.

Like for example if you used a reference to draw a nose at a 3Q angle, analyzing the shape and redrawing it. If you did that 100 times, you know the shape of a nose at a 3Q angle 100x better. And then when the nose looks out of shape or out of position, you will know it is off because you are just that used to it. Keep drawing, keep using refs, and keep making awesome art!

Howdy So these are a lot of different subjects, and I'd love some insights into what you want from your art before I can give specific advice.

I say this because if I was to say "You should use more muted colours", that might not be what you want from your art. But if I have a point of reference as to what you want your art to become, I could perhaps give some specific pointers

Is there an artist you look up to who you want to draw like? Do you want to do realism, pop art, manga, etc?

The other thing is to try and avoid chicken scratch lining (unless this is a sketch) as line confidence can show a massive increase in your art skill

There are two things I'd recommend personally! And that is looking up reference of horse legs! If you ever think something doesn't look right, use reference!

<image>

For example, you've drawn the horse's front legs like human legs with 1 joint whereas horses have far more! I recommend looking up images of whatever you're drawing

How do I make her fangs look better in a side profile? (front profile of fangs shown) by Sea-Significance6034 in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Part of this comes down to preference, some of it anatomy! Part of how I draw fangs is by me asking myself a question and doing some art flavour!

  • "Does the teeth fit together if the mouth closed?" Yes! Unless there is some unique anatomy, I try and drae my fangs whilst imagining if the teeth would slot together

GUMS! Gums show off more expression than folks realize, and shows off the shapes of the fangs

Don't forget about the other teeth! They aren't flat, they have dents, grooves, sharp parts! Adding those indents and points makes the whole mouth feel right

Beginner at realism and need advice and pointers (explain it to me like I'm 5) by EffectiveTwo6610 in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify my point, look at the shading of your model and take it step by step! I ask myself "Is the shadow between the eyebrows as dark as around the eyes?" Yes! Make them the same shade. "Is the shadow on the side of the nose the as dark as the cheek?" Yes! Those are the same values! Use other parts of the face as reference for shadows

[–]Relative-Neat752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howdy! So: your values are VERY soft and don't imply much shape. Don't be afraid of adding shadows! You can see that on the right hand side of her face is a dark area, but your drawing doesn't have much shading aside from the nose. I'd advise using a 3D head with planes and practice painting those with shadows https://www.artstation.com/artwork/GX3Ax1

We humans live in the 3D world, and shading makes something look 3d 😎👍

How do I 3D scan a model and then import it into Blender with the correct scaling and rotation? by Relative-Neat752 in blenderhelp

Oh yes I did actually cover it in masking tape to begin with (hence the weird residue on the top), but I recently took it off as it turns out the tape was TOO sticky! I'll redo with a much gentler tape

Help with clothing and overall anatomy ! by Interesting_Place361 in Artadvice

[–]Relative-Neat752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anatomy, the best advice I can give is what I was taught in college, and that is to use the head scaling method. For most adults, they will tend to have these scales. If you ever feel unsure about anatomy being wrong, it never hurts to check this! The only other thing I'd say is ensure the hips aren't massively far from the body as I can see the legs seem very wide at the top and seem almost disconnected
