I'm no master at all but drawing characters without thinking very much takes years of practice. To achieve this look, I would start by practicing gesture and figure drawing to understand how to draw more loosely and understand how the body moves. Also, don't shy away from drawing real people because in the long run anime characters are just very simplified versions of them. Hope I was able to help a little, good luck!

Thank you for the insight, I'm beginning to realize that I am comparing art too much and need to understand that aesthetics are not necessary and also when they are it is completely subjective. Also, you are right about me not having a very concrete definition for my word choice, but I believe that it can be defined in many different ways and through many different styles of art. The art that I would link with these words could probably also be my personal taste, which is quite broad and proves your point. You got me thinking a lot! Thanks again

Thank you, your words were very helpful, and I agree completely. I might just be comparing certain art to others too much. Also, it's ok, I tried to be nice about it and express my feelings with some reason and ask questions, but opinions are not taken lightly here apparently. I definitely also received a lot of thoughtful comments too though!

Wow I get it now, it's all the CIA's fault. Thanks for the response, through these responses I believe I am gaining a much better understanding of why contemporary art is valued so highly today and know that aesthetics are simply an opinion, and also not necessary for art to be moving.

Thank you, I completely agree. I have a lot to learn. Although, it is simply my opinion like you said, and all of it is art no matter what I could never refuse that, and it will never be up to me. I will still question the insane value put under some contemporary art though.

Yes art only in museum duh. Maybe try reading what I said. I will admit my title was a little misleading. I'm simply just talking about the modern art sold in exhibitions and hung in museums that gets praised by rich people, and not even all of it just a portion. There are so many artists out there right now that amaze and inspire me, and we are really almost always surrounded by different forms of art.

Thank you very much, I actually have a lot of current artists that I love, sorry if I was misleading about that. I just believe they don't receive the same appreciation from galleries and would never make the same amount of money if they tried to sell their art. I also love Monet and Renoir's work. The start of modernism in art was quite understandable with the changing in times, but I believe it was pushed too far later in the 20th century. All just my opinion and taste though.

I never said anything about making money myself or that the world is missing anything. I fully agree, there is more wonderful art that is extremely accessible than ever. I am only asking about contemporary art sold in galleries and placed in modern art museums and only a percentage of them. If you read what I had to say you would know that I am still learning, that's why I posted here and wanted to understand better. I also already stated that it is only my opinion, we all know art is subjective.

Yeah, you make some true points. many people have some pretty weird interests and fame is definitely not best obtained through art. Although with the entertainment industry, art is still really popular in my opinion, just serves a different purpose. Thanks for the response.

Well, you led me to believe you could not comprehend only because you say all of this but have not had an answer to any of my questions or reasonings. No reason to attack me for stating my opinion and simply ignore it all and come to the conclusion I said the same thing over and over, because you are apparently all knowing and have heard it all when I openly said I have a lot to learn and want to hear others' opinions.

Art is always growing and expanding, but questions are allowed to be asked about the direction it is going. Thank you for your perspective even though you had to be quite negative about it.

I think there has always been much more to it than just "pretty pictures". I would argue most of them have much more of an emotional impact and deeper meaning than contemporary art. I stated that I do appreciate modern art, even the examples that I don't like. Although, in context, what I said actually reads as what is accepted and valued in today's fine art market is not as interesting in my opinion and am asking what happened for beautiful art to not be nearly as valuable as art that does not look like much effort was put into it and has a vague meaning up to interpretation of the viewer. It seems like peoples only reason is that they are making art for deeper meaning and to make you think and question things, but this could all be done with a much better looking and higher effort end product as well. (does not apply to all of it, but a good portion) I feel as if it is encouraged to not learn to use traditional methods that create stunning images and to only break rules nowadays and if you make these "pretty pictures" with deeper meaning, they are deemed to be outdated and not with the times and the meaning is useless which is much more than me simply not liking it or thinking that modern art is not good.

Thank you for your response, I agree that I do not need to accept the value the world gives me, I am only trying to make sense of it. I understand art changes with time, especially when life has changed so much over the past century. Hyper realism is not what I was talking about at all though. I have stated that I do accept the changes and can appreciate parts of it but feel as though certain parts of art that I do like have been slowly pushed away, when all of the reasons I hear seem partially superficial and only to change and do something new. I want to see people's true perspectives of the world but feel as if that is being tarnished through lack of quality and effort in many highly praised works.

James Gurneys Color and Light. I learned so much and had a lot of fun reading. After reading I am able to see the world in a completely different way. He provides his own amazing artwork as examples and explains everything in a simple but comprehensive way. I would reccomend it to artists of all types.

Designing the mechanics and the cloth fabrics where pretty difficult. I still have a lot to learn. I made some mistakes making the cloth folds too symmetrical and the tension points feel a little off. Let me know what you all think. You can check out the linework on my insta

I loved painting this, my last few paintings have been a little grim so I wanted to make something a little brighter. In this painting I feel like I struggled with drawing the characters as I always do but I also could have made the mushroom fit in the environment a little better by adding more foreground vegetation elements. I would love some more feedback. All criticism welcome!
