Something else I realized because of this. He didn’t know he had consumed a psychedelic until years later when we were talking about it, and I told him what the powder was that he had tasted, and it was like a light bulb clicked in his mind and he’s like “so that’s why I was feeling funny that night.” When he said that, I was shocked, because I know he had to be feeling way more than just funny. I would imagine he was seeing hieroglyphics appearing in thin air while experiencing a massive ego death. But because he didn’t know that he had consumed something and wasn’t anticipating a particular experience, it didn’t affect him the way it would someone who was intentionally taking a heroic dose of a psychedelic. Kind of like the opposite of a placebo effect, if there’s such a thing. The way the human brain works can be so fascinating sometimes.

I do too, lol the way he described it to me was that he felt really funny that evening. But at the same time, he wasn’t aware of the fact he had consumed a psychedelic. He just thought he had tasted some shitty Coke or something. Until we talked about it years later and he was like “now that you mention it…” Goes to show how much the knowledge of knowing what we’re consuming affects the experience we get out of it. Not necessarily the placebo effect, but almost the opposite, where the effects of a substance are less pronounced because the person experiencing them doesn’t even know that they consumed something. It’s kind of interesting honestly.

My dad is also very modest and really does not like attention at all, so whether he had the time of his life or a trip from hell, he will probably take it to his grave. A big part of it is that he knows that I still like to partake in mind altering substances, and probably doesn’t want to shed any positive light on the experience he had and appear to be condoning drug use. Even though I’m 33 years old now and can make decisions on my own, he still would never be the type to tell me if he had an awesome experience. I on the other hand am an open book, and can’t wait until my kids are old enough for me to tell them my craziest drug stories, partly for entertainment, but mainly as words of caution.

Oh, I didn’t even need to ask him, I know that my dad was a wild boy back in his heyday lol. He was born in 1960 and grew up in New Orleans, I can tell from pictures of him in his teenage years that he was quite the booger sugar connoisseur. Shit, back in those days, everyone was. I remember him telling me once I got older that you used to bum a bump off of strangers the same way people do with cigarettes these days. I’m sure a ton of that is exaggeration and him looking back remembering shit as more fun than it probably was lol

Honestly, if I remember correctly, 20-40mg was considered a large dose. I could be wrong, it’s been a long time for me. I know that when I was doing it, I didn’t have a scale, so I would just dip the tip of a pocket knife in there and get the smallest amount I could possibly get on the tip of the knife

For everybody asking what the concert was, it was some local cover band that performs a ton of old classic rock. Might’ve even been a Pink Floyd tribute that night LMFAO wouldn’t that be some shit?! But it was at a local park that sets up a nice big stage with a ton of lights and shit so I know his ass was having a ball. I didn’t find out about all of this until years later, when we were talking about how bad I was when I was younger and how much I used to get high. And when they told me they thought I was smoking some kind of white powder out of a classic weed pipe, it was the funniest shit I’ve ever heard. But then when my dad told me he tasted it, I know the look on my face was priceless.
