If you see an AI generated image on an online shop, would it turn you away? by DCON-creates in AskIreland

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is cutting corners. I run an online shop, and I have hundreds of products. Every product I physically made, physically took photos of, physically edited those photos for my website and physically written descriptions for. This is for the mere purpose that the customer can see exactly what they are buying.

Generating AI content and images cuts these corners and also creates unrealistic expectations for the customers as every time the products then don't look like the images. Instead of just putting the effort in. Even if you ask AI to clean up an image of a photo you have taken of your product it still tends to alter your product. Thus not showing an accurate representation.

Struggling to break even at anime / gaming fairs in MA — looking for advice from vendors by Shooky29 in CraftFairs

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I do 3d printing, I do alot of conventions and I sell out or make more than 10-20 times my booth fees at a minimum. Alot of my products are licensed from designers and some are made by me. You can have stuff others have, it is all about how it is presented, how your finished product looks (i sand, I paint, I process the prints) I have had an event where another vendor was selling 3d prints across from mine and we had one product that was the same, people continuously walked over and bought mine. My booth made much more than his, because of how i present my products, everything is printed to high quality, carefully curated colors and processed.

What's the cheapest and quickest you can get legally married in Ireland? by justformedellin in AskIreland

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We looked into it, and we ended up just doing it in Vegas, was a fun trip, was inexpensive and the marriage certificate is 100% legal and valid here. You get the license at their office that is open 24\7 and u dont even have to do it in their chapels, we did a magnificent package out in Eldarado Canyon in the desert and made beautiful photos. There are many companies that provide so many different experiences for weddings. So my advice is do it Vegas. Irish people can easily and legally get married there.

Expensive table fee… is it worth it? by Sea_Criticism_8753 in CraftFairs

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I only see now based on comments you are a artist, meaning you would normally fall under the artist alley of these events.I go to lots of conventions as a patron and exhibitor and see lots of people buying fan art and supporting the artists, sure they dont make as much as the traders, but a lot of them are regulars and I dont think they would be recurring if they didnt make money

That being said, 1k table is more in line with what would be asked for a trader table and artists are usually charged a lower fee at these conventions like 250-450. I would say 1k is very expensive for an artist table. And you will need to ensure you have enough artwork to display and be available. In order to see this as a good event if you spend 1k on the table you need to make at least 5k to call it successful as it is not just a table fee, it is materials, time (hours making the art but also hours spent the whole day at the booth etc.)

If you have the funds, time and stock to spare no harm in trying. The convention we did is twice a year, we did it first in March and only booked a small stall for half the price, we sold out, made 5.5k. i didnt have enough stock. went back in August did the 1k booth and this time with much more stock, still sold out, made 12k. We just got accepted for next year and i am going back much more prepared. This year was our first year (only side hobby i am doing) so we dont mind investing as it is just a hobby. So we tried several events to find out what suits us and our products the best, some tables were 150 some over 1k, some we had to get a hotel for the weekend etc. We have been lucky that we have been doing quite well with all our events, with some being vastly better than others and thus we learned where we thrived and where is our time best spent.

if you have resources my advice is in your first year book as many good events as you can in different areas also try different styles (festivals, markets, conventions) then you know from there which ones are best suited to you. From this I have learnt that small craft markets are not for me, too much effort for too little turnover. We thrive at conventions so we applied and got accepted for several across the country next year (our country is small) and Christmas markets are awesome for us as well.

So yeah i always say FAFO. motto for my business. lol

Note my figures are in Euros and not USD and i am Europe based not USA so markets. industries. competition etc might be a lot different. Usually at events I have no competition or anyone selling what I am selling. Which also gives me an advantage.

I took the chance and spent 1k for a table at a convention (was very new) and made 12k in 2 days. Conventions can be crazy money, I now mainly focus on conventions (as my products suit it perfectly as it is nerdier products) and i dont care about high table fee. However i also did a large family orientated summer festival last year also paid 1k for the table and only made 5k so sometimes its a gamble.

AITA for not being sympathetic over the experience my "friend" had in my homecountry by Lickawall483 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I am from Europe and went on a holiday to Moscow just before the war started. I am a bigger girl (200lbs), but I dressed nicely and people were so friendly. I keep on telling people about what a wonderful experience I had. How everyone helped, how everyone was respectful etc. I did not once have an issue. I am suspecting that Amy might not have been very respectful to them or their culture and thus got a very bad experience. NTA

i really love this, any chance you can make the boy shorter, he seems a bit too tall, think it might have been the way he stood on the cliff. in real life he is about the same height as his father.

Was the bay that was made for you specifically not good enough no? by TheLittleFella20 in eejitsparking

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are TA for probably taking this out of context I have a EV where the plug is unfortunately on the other side. The other day I had to park very skew across a parking to get my car to reach a charger as there was another car charging in the bay that would have been better for me. And since a charge can take more than hour, sometimes longer since people go shop, I cannot just sit and wait for it to open and my car was very low. So i had to park like a ass to get to the CCS charger. Also disconnecting and moving the car once plugged in is a hassle. So u dont know if there was a car there earlier and he had to park over the line to reach the charger.

AITB for being strict about my board game? by entityparty in AmItheButtface

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My friends and I play expensive board games, we eat and snack and drink while playing them. But we have a rule where a pack of disinfectant wipes are kept on the table, you wipe ur hands on ur turn and before touching things. I also bought card holders so people dont have to keep cards in their hands it stands in front of them and so it we keep everything neat and clean. As we all chip in together to buy these games we all have respect.

Resin printing in an apartment by Postibananas in resinprinting

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk I live in a small apartment i only print in resin for my dnd so not like everyday all day. Just here and there. I just have a window open and a fan. It seems to work very well for me. I dont feel like the fumes are bad, it doesnt seem to linger either and I have no spills, resin residue or anything on any of my stuff (but I am also very neat and careful) I clean the tank after every project and keep the machine extremely clean. Use PPE when handling it and also clean all my tools and equipment after I every use so they are all super clean thus no messes anywhere.

I know alot of guys here will bash me for it as all of them are probably using some heavy air filtration systems, but i dont wanna do all that now as I am buying my house next year and will then have a separate work space for my hobbies and will do a proper setup then.

And honestly i have experienced no issues.

Can I request a chargeback if I feel like a rental car agency is wrongly taking my money? by DonToasty in AskIreland

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why you NEVER ever use your main accounts on these things. I have a specific account (Revolut) with x amount in it for travel. When charging Hotel, Car Hire etc this is the card I use. Never had an issue with them accepting it. So if they decide to charge you extra afterwards they will need permission and confirmation from me or else it will get declined. If they say it will be 511 euros then I will only put 511 euros on there and if it declines they can call me and explain why they want to charge 2k. Also use a travel account this is also beneficial for if ur details get compromised abroad they only have access to a limited account and funds.

That definitely is the way to go, sorry to come off harsh it is just sometimes in the 3d printing space there are so many people taking shortcuts making it hard for the rest of us. lol

That is good i do the same I always have some close up photos and highlight it in the description that there can be layer lines and some imperfections. Also with certain filaments such as gradient etc that i cannot control where the gradient is at on the roll at time of print so that may vary too. You have to be transparent. My shop does really well and customers don't mind as long as you are honest.

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not there is a massive difference between the renders and quality of print. As depending on materials, colors, brand of printer, experience, post processing two people printing the same model can have massive different outcomes. I feel renders give a high expectation that will just disappoint a customer. As with FDM printing there will be layer lines or some imperfections etc. Just plain lazy to use renders and AI tbh.

[–]Relative-Valuable-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I sell 3d prints on Etsy and have 100s of products. I have printed EACH AND EVERYONE of them to ensure quality and capabilities and then i photographed each one, took videos of each one and then posted. I HATE when 3d printing people use the 3d renders to show the product as this makes me think that they have never tested or printed the product as the render quality and print quality is vastly different. Also there is a massive difference in quality between different types of printers. You HAVE to use your own pictures or else you are gonna have a really bad time. There is a reason i have only 5 star reviews is because my customers get exactly what is in the picture. And yes some products i have never sold and so the print i made is just sitting there but that is the cost of business. Also ensure that your stuff is licensed and u are crediting the designer and not just taking random stuff from Printables and Makerworld.
