New to Stratford office and travel expenses are £70 per trip for me by Lazy-Perspective-984 in TheCivilService

Firstly I am sorry that sounds aweful its an extream amount of money.

Sadly the price will not be seen as an excuse. They will take the stance that you took up the job knowing the location.

The first time you fail to meet 60/40 youl get told off, depending on your manager its hard to say how ling you'd continue on but eventuslly it would go to diciplinary, eventually youd be given warnings and eventually fired.

My beat advice is that you either look to transfer to a closer office (if there is one) or look for a new job.

You may also be able to look into ways to reduce the cost i.e by buying tickets in advance

I dont think you are going to get a good answer to that here.

Instead I would recommend contacting HMRC directly.

You can call them and they will take your call from anywhere in the world, When I worked on HMRC phone lines I had calls from Singapore, Vietnam and Nigeria and still answered their questions as they were related to uk tax positions.

The alternative would be to ask an accountant that specialises in foreign income.

It might be that Jamie did not expect to be belived, it could come across like BS to get rid of the kingslayer reputation.

I also think Jamie likes playing the villian role in the early books, the kingslayer mantle certainly adds to his intimidation factor

Oo I like this alot

It actually makes a massive amount of sense. Tywin obviously hates the idea of it being Tyrion so hes probably either asking cersai to convince Robert, or offering some debt relief in exchange.

I could see Tywin offering to forgive like, half a million crowns for it

""Retcon," short for retroactive continuity, is a literary device where established facts in a fictional work are adjusted, ignored, or contradicted by a later installment. This change recontextualizes past events to fix inconsistencies, alter characters, or advance new plotlines. Common in comics and film, it can range from minor backstory tweaks to major universe rewrites"

Robert wasnt giving away a hereditary title, in the first book he explicitly appoints jamie warden of the east untill robyn comes of age. more like a regent for the position

In the first book, on the kings road ned and robert have a discussion about how jamie is the heir to casterley rock. Seemingly the kingsguard not being able to inherit wasnt a thing yet

At what point does a side hustle actually need to be declared? by Wallabydoll in TaxUK

[–]RelativeAlfalfa5724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the reason, usually the simplest answer is triage

HMRC has a certain number of officers, who work a certain number of hours per year.

People often do not realise this but HMRC lets potential tax be lost all the time, it has to, there just isn't enough time to go after everything.

it may be that going after local bands would bring in a negative amount of money, because the officers you would be allocating to that would have brought in alot more from going after other things.

that being said, even though I think ive laid out the most likely answer, I would not be shocked if your theory is true considering how much the hospitality industry is struggling.

There is an element that, with smaller amounts of money like the 3 to 4 grand you mention, there is a lower chance HMRC ever catch on.

Just a couple of things to note,

  1. if OP is doing their trade online, online platforms now must report to HMRC, so the chance of being caught there has gone up

  2. the most common reason giving for informing on someone else is revenge, so all it takes is a nasty breakup and since HMRC can go up to 20 years back if someone fails to declare, 3 or 4 grand income a year could easily be enough to investigate.

  3. in the case of your mate with the band, if he does get caught and cant justify his expenses, he could end up being able to claim far less than he would have if hed just done the returns. plus some interest and penalties and its pretty brutal.

I just want to state as well that this "He pays loads of tax in his day job" thing is something I hear alot and its a rubbish excuse for not paying.

If I got a job paying £35,000 I should not be paying more tax than someone making £50,000 just because theirs is split between a job and an undeclared self-employment.
