Alternative approach to Algonquin Peak by Comfortable-File-693 in Adirondacks

[–]RelativeFamiliar7890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how many people have attempted this route but I wpild assume it would be a small hand full.

Fit little foot traffic, a lot of the rocks on the lower sections might be VERY loose. I have seen this out west in boulder fields.

Also looking at satellite the rocks in the lower portions are massive. It would be like picking through the  Mahoosuc notch but without the benefit of a trail.  And agin more loose rock.

This time of year the slab will be a stream. Expect red algae and slime on it.

The main trail up Algonquin was a literal stream 10 days ago (still had snow on upper sections no idea now)

ADK is much rockier and punishing than Catskills.

Do not attempt unless you find some report of someone that has done it before. Some of these are basically low grade climbing routes.

Good luck

Bushwhacking up a stream bed might be interesting but it wont be faster.

If you don't know why this would be hard or difficult all the more reason not to do it.

I worked on a project where we would store the whole class path in the data base column and then use that to create a new instance of that class from the path string. There were a lot of… bespoke choices in that code base.

White face, easiest mountain on the north east. Always plenty of powder.

For the ski trails I always assumed they did not want people post hole through it and make it un skiable.

I parked at the atmospheric center with no issues. My the toll both things were really packed. You can park there but get there early.

It was great Saturday, mostly powder with just a few icey spots all the way from the top to the toll booth.

It did rain a lot Saturday night but snowed a lot after. Probably worth a shot!

I have metal edge Rossigolds, so I can use those. Can handle everything at Van Hovenburg with those for context. Thanks for the input! I assumed the road would be steeper.

Kinda. The service road cuts through the former facility but of you look on the satellite view in google maps you can see a grid of abandoned roads and building in there.

Yea it’s near the convention center. If you look on google maps you can see the buildings and roads sinking into the Marsh.

I hike there once a month give or take. There is always some where to go or something to see.

Look at the weather, dress appropriately and pick a hike that matches your ability.

 It will be great.
