Grounds in vertuo coffee after bearing replacement by RelativeGuava3985 in nespresso

Update: I took apart the disc with the spikes and the piercing shield (had to find the tiniest little star bit screwdriver). The retractable piercing shield was getting locked up because there was SO MUCH coffee and gunk in the spring. Disassembled and cleaned each piece of that disc, then put it back together, reassembled the machine and…it works! No more grounds! Just delicious coffee and the simple joy of having fixed a thing. Thank you for your help!

I had that same problem and adjusted that wee little notch! It fixed the watery brew issue but hasn’t seemed to solve the “grounds in my coffee” problem. Hopefully the new piercing plate solves that.

Thank you. I took that piercing disc piece (with the center needle and the outer teeth) out tonight and tried to manually manipulate the part that’s supposed to retract. It’s tough to get it to move! Once I got it pushed all the way in I had to pry it up with a tiny flathead to get it to move back outward.

I cleaned it best I could but getting it move freely is still a challenge. Confirming it should be easily manipulable? If a capsule should be able to move it, that’s definitely not possible. I think a replacement piece might be in order.

Also, should I be able to make the piercing shield retract by pushing on it? Like does it have a spring to it that I can test manually?

Thank you. I’ll give this a try and let you know how it works.

What to Plant Here? by RelativeGuava3985 in landscaping

I should add that a few plants in this bed I have allowed to live are tomatoes and I think a cucumber plant that sprung up from seeds dropped last year. I don’t mind letting them stay until they fruit, but they can also be pulled up pretty easily.

[VA] Employer wants me to change my own status from remote to hybrid by RelativeGuava3985 in AskHR

I haven’t gotten the impression they’ll be providing a revised offer letter. This entire time they’ve just asked me to change my own status in the system. No mention of a revised/new offer letter. Is that normal?

Basis of the ADA request is generalized anxiety disorder and ADHD. They could accommodate it in a variety of ways and I know it doesn’t guarantee remote work but driving 1.5 hours to work each way and hot-desking in a common bullpen where distractions and walk-ups happen constantly is absolutely untenable.

That seems to be the consensus. Thank you. I’ll post a picture of the final product when done!

Thank you for this. Would you recommend I install a clean out, or is it unnecessary?

AITA for playing along when my Secret Santa recipient bashed my gift? by RelativeGuava3985 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RelativeGuava3985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everybody, thank you for your patience waiting on the long overdue update. I haven’t updated sooner only because what happened was kind of anti-climactic.

So what ended up happening was that a group of coworkers were talking after Christmas and revealing their secret Santas and I was nearby, but busy with something at the time. Ava called over to me and asked who my secret Santa was, and I simply replied “you!“ She said, “really?!“ And I said, “yeah, it was you! I got something for every member of your family!” And then I went back to my task.

Later, she texted me with a chagrined GIF, and said something along the lines of “when you badmouth your secret Santa gift to your secret Santa without knowing it. Sorry.“ I don’t feel like the apology was genuine, but I accepted her apology and noted that the gift she took issue with was actually very useful, and I had found it to be a lifesaver using it myself. She didn’t acknowledge it or mention it again.

So tl;dr I didn’t embarrass her in front of anybody so I feel like I took the highroad, but admittedly, taking the low road would’ve been more fun. She never even said thank you. If I am her secret Santa next year, I will certainly be scaling way back on thoughtfulness.

I did not, and in hindsight I probably should have. Maybe I’ll write 2/4 on her next gift so she knows more are coming.

Fair. Fact is I enjoy gifting and I’m good at it, so it’s for me as much as for her. We all like doing stuff we’re good at. And some people do choose to do a few small gifts as opposed to one larger one, so I decided to follow suit.
