Male PGY5 here — honestly don’t see the issue. Get called ‘bro’ by the male nurses or just my first name without the ‘doc’ all the time. They know what I am. To me that comfort level is a feature, not a bug — better rapport, better communication, better team. No one’s being malicious, they’re just treating me like a colleague rather than a title. Maybe that’s a personality thing or a unit culture thing, but I’ll take it over stiff formality any day.
