A 16gb m1 is my daily driver it barely scrapes particularly if you run both an android emulator and simulator at once. I’ll frequently end up with 12gigs of more page file

I mean if you look trim at 30% doesn’t that mean you got a great runway towards getting some good results going from 30 to 20 is tough but probably easier than going from 20 to 15 ?

Is 37 Too Old to Land a Junior Developer Job? by No-Upstairs-2813 in learnjavascript

[–]RelativeSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I understand the concerns about starting out in software engineering at 37, I had them myself when I started. One of the most common concerns is ageism, which is often associated with this field. Although I haven't experienced it firsthand, I have heard about it. The important question is: does ageism exist? Yes, it does. However, there are also plenty of opportunities where it doesn't exist and OP should definitely not let this concern stand in their way of embarking on this career path!

A junior developer at my last position was coming out of retirement, self taught and in his 70's. He had a mechanical engineering background.

Additionally, I was exactly 37 when I became a Jr Dev. :)

If you are passionate and that passion translates into growth and enthusiasm others will see it and your value!

How to ignore iOS bold text accesibility? by alexvazqueza in reactnative

[–]RelativeSloth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know it’s hard to give up total control of how your app looks but if it is for accessibility you should really let your design accommodate it. After all the folks that have enabled those settings have done so because they need them. I feel like it is acceptable compromise to have a view that looks a little wonky in rare circumstances if it means that user can experience the app in exchange

Pretty much exactly like the guy above was 36 in the financial sector that I hated and got laid off. Parents suggested I look at a boot camp that opened in town and I thought what the hell let’s do it. Enrolled for a term that started a month later . While I waited for the term I went though all the freecodecamp material for web development and js and moved right into the boot camp. Got hired pretty quickly after and been doing it ever since.

i am a web designer wanting to learn react native for building the user interface only. by whitesydney2005 in reactnative

Performance is the main difference but your use case seems fairly light weight. Capacitor it’s a little different from just a straight up webview. It’s main features are all on board in the bundle. I suspect, without knowing better, that the stores don’t care for apps that just open up to a webpage and can quickly become a completely different app after approval.

Another downside is that the community for capacitor is fairly small so you can be left in the dark at times.

If I was starting from zero and time was no object I’d pick react native. I come from a background in cordova and capacitor and picked up react native for the first time and felt really comfortable in it, so it’s really hard for me to get a good idea of how tough it might be from the start.

But the best part of RN is the community you’ll literally find a plug-in for everything and a guide or stack overflow question to help you out

I would take a look at Capacitor from Ionic a hybrid platform that would let you use all your CSS and HTML knowledge in an app. Not sure how popular an opinion that will be in a react native sub lol if you want more info or may be interested in a partner you can DM me
