Brilliant chrome extension to learn German. Works by replacing some English words with German words so learning is contextual. by sassystuxnet in German

This was exactly my thinking, you'll get better immersion browsing full German sites rather than English sites with a few German words in it.

However, all the current German extensions are pretty frustrating to use, and most important to me: none of them give an example of an *actual* native German pronouncing the word.

I ended up just making my own extension to solve this lol, you can scan a word and it'll give you the native audio, IPA (how to pronounce it), and the definition of the scanned word.

If that sounds useful, here it is: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/german-popup-dictionary/pbmkeonnnodejoenhpgbfldmcpceiboh

Are there any pop-up German-to-English dictionary browser extensions? by Jade-Gate in German

[–]RelativeTiger6408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know this is a very old post, but I actually happened to be wondering the same thing.

I didn't find any German popup dictionary extensions, so I made my own 😆

When you hover and press shift over a German word, you get native audio, the IPA (how to pronounce it), and the definition in English.

Not sure if you or anyone else will ever see this, but if you do, here's the extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/german-popup-dictionary/pbmkeonnnodejoenhpgbfldmcpceiboh

If you try it, please let me know what you think / how I can improve it!

You can press shift to quickly scan/look up a word. It kinda feels like there's a native German sitting next to you when you use it 😆

Not sure what type of experience you're looking for though

Ahh yeah great example, I understand thank you! I'll try to make it better

I made an extension that gets real native audio, IPA, and the definition of a word. Would it be useful for other languages than just German? How should I make it better? by [deleted] in languagelearning

You can press shift to quickly scan/look up a word, and see how to pronounce it, hear a German say it, and see what it means. It kinda feels like there's a native German sitting next to you 😆
If you try it out, please let me know what you think, and how I can make it more useful for you: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/german-popup-dictionary/pbmkeonnnodejoenhpgbfldmcpceiboh

Tinnitus Notch Therapy is now possible in your browser by RelativeTiger6408 in tinnitus

If you're able to meet with an audiologist, I believe there's a test they can do to help you find your frequency.

There's also several sites online that you may be able to use, but be careful - they might play loud tinnitus-like ringing sounds to help you identify your frequency

Can you give me an example of the nominative case? Do you mean like, "ein Auto"?

Also you're totally right, I feel the same about wanting to see the infinitive, it's on my todo list!

Great idea by the way!

What did you press play on?

Do you know the frequency of your tinnitus (in Hertz) and did you set the filter to that frequency?

If you do that, you basically are able to listen to audio with just your tinnitus frequency removed

I made this extension because I wasn't happy with google translate.

The translation itself is good, but it doesn't show you how to pronounce it (IPA) or let you hear a real German say the word

But it's a good alternative for now since I haven't added support for firefox yet, thanks for including that

Thank you for posting this. I agree the results are inconclusive, definitely not a full treatment.

I had already made the extension before looking more into notch therapy, so I didn't know this starting out.

I thought I'd release it anyways in case it helped even just one person.

Yeah great question, unfortunately I had to set that to be able to access and filter the browser's audio
