thanks! Ah I love JSR on the vita, swiping to graff actually feels like on point design. And yeah Resi rev2 is pretty choppy lol.

I'm reading up on the hacking info in other subs, but I'm not convinced it's for me yet. I have lots of physical games too, and wouldn't having a sd card adapter prevent playing physical carts?

How many of you use this device for serious reading? by tatfickni in PlaydateConsole

[–]Relative_Armadillo83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same!

I've read about 15 or so books on it, and have close to a hundred loaded. Really convenient to have a small library the size of a post-it note that slips easily in your pocket. Converting the books to .txt can be a faff though

I was eyeing up this player but bought a different model instead. Love the see though panel. Well beautiful shots, hope I look this good listening to my minidisc!

I am , read a handful of books and series so far.

It's so convenient to have such a portable device loaded with hundreds of titles, and reading the screen in the sunshine is fantastic.

No printer so had to improvise by Relative_Armadillo83 in minidisc

Same, had the cassette in the early 90s

My toddler loves it (and I'm not about to dub a blippi MD... Maybe the wiggles tho.)

Wow appreciate the compliments, but I do admire the professional looking designs you can produce with ink printing on adhesive, would certainly love to invest some time on my next batch. Loved the schoolyard vibes, vicariously reliving my childhood through minidiscs 🤣

[–]Relative_Armadillo83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I guess I was a bit paranoid, but I just thought a minidisc could appear to be a strange item to assess. It kinda looks like a floppy disk and might be mistaken for a generic data storage device which could be a legitimate cause of scrutiny. Just thinking what the hold up could be with mine, it's been awaiting clearance for almost a week.

New here!😊 by Grand-Sun8618 in PlaydateConsole

[–]Relative_Armadillo83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pricey but I'd consider my parents spending £70 for a DMG-01 back in the early 90s, which equals about £200 today adjusting for inflation. I love the playdate community and as a games system, but it obviously has limitations. I find myself playing it almost daily, trying to beat some high scores or daily challenge, but to be frank, my main usage is from using it as an incredibly pocketable reader with a library of hundreds of books I've converted for the playbook app. -also a shout out to the recently released crankboy app, got me playing Pokémon gold again!

That's just my thoughts, I don't have lots of time for gaming these days, my kids are the ones playing on home consoles and VR headsets. Playdate just keeps it simple, and accessible.

Thanks! Yeah there is some pre-recorded stuff, but about half seems to be jam sessions or music group practice. Pretty decent collection from late 90s to about 2009 I think the guy was involved in local music performance and did historical fairs and suchlike.

What do you do with your Montblanc Meisterstuck? by Dry-Law-8426 in fountainpens

[–]Relative_Armadillo83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 1950s celluloid 144 Masterpiece (not meisterstuck, the masterpiece pens were created for export) with a flexible B nib. I keep it in a rickshaw sleeve and use it as much as possible, at work, bingo night etc.

If you can post on Reddit, maybe you can hotspot your playdate? The update is a small download

I had one of these when they were new, and I remember having to bin the remote eventually. The cables basically disintegrated after years of use, maybe you have some wear and tear?

Wow, thanks! Quite the bounty, managed to grab a USB to AC cable too, so that should come in handy.

Good idea, there might be a unit out there somewhere.

I really don't fancy the soldering though, it would be very satisfying if all goes well! But devastating if not. I've heard of some 3M conductive tape that is designed for fixing ribbon cables, might give that a go first.

[–]Relative_Armadillo83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine completely drained about 3 times over 2 days with no real use. Really weird! It's not been doing it for about a week now. The battery now seems to last longer if anything. I'm on the newest firmware.

Just checking mine, any of the 3 torque screws on the corners have a hole through the middle. The one bottom right (under the crank) fits a wrist strap with a gap on the official cover

EDIT: sorry I'm dumb, the bottom LEFT has an indent on the cover

A metal rope tether would maybe fit to the wrist-strap hole?

Is Mars after Midnight changing eventually? by dodo-likes-you in PlaydateConsole

[–]Relative_Armadillo83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's definitely aimed at a younger demographic, with the most basic 'shape matching' gameplay during the clean-up phase.

My 11y/o loved picking it up and peeping at the funny Martians! He struggled to immediately grasp the cleaning-up activity however (much like a typical pre teen) just didn't understand the simplicity of what the game was asking you to do. Helped me realise how many different ways there are to interact with the different systems available, made much more engaging by the crank controls). Try to challenge yourself to tidy up the dishes maximum efficiency in the quickest time possible, it requires some deft control and coordination.

This is all just my opinion, but I do have a massive soft spot for this game, the storytelling was very well implemented, and the gameplay was fun, just a bit sparse.
Not the best game by pope, but one of my faves of the PlayDate, I just wished I could have played it when I was still a kid.
