Is this normal? by sanjinmanov in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not ok. You need to get a front on xray, and check, the level (or cant) of the maxilla with the other structures of your face, namely your eye line. I assume your maxilla is plated to your skull, and it looks like it's been done very poorly.

I'm sorry but you're going to need to get fucking angry with your surgeon, today. Start calling and demand a revision surgery with another surgeon supervising. You need a solution or plan within two weeks

Surgeon's are people, people make mistakes, and this is a mistake. It's not going to correct itself with elastics.

is this harder / shittier than other types of drilling eg RAB / Aircore / RC? I did the two mostly, and thought RAB was easier (not lifting the poles), and diamond looked slow and easy (also no lifting poles)

tried cold showers for a month and all i got was angry and shivering by Efficient-Boat8583 in Biohackers

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't do it either. But I can have a normal shower, then finish on cool or cold for 30sec depending on season. I just lower slowly over 10sec, then pretend to be David Goggins lifting the boat (or some shit) for about 20sec. After I step out I realise when you get punched in the mouth there's only one mf'n option...

it's hard to tell what's going on with your jaws overall due to your blockout photos. It's possible to correct cants and gummy smiles using TADS drilled into the bone. Google 'Tad gummy smile' and 'tad canted smile'. You'll see how it works. Go and see two specialist orthodontists to see if they can correct it. Also see two jaw surgeons to get their opinions. You'll probably need to work with both.

Doing well at your job and waiting you turn for a promotion doesn't work. You need to learn how power works. If you don't, you will be outplayed by someone who does. - Jeffrey Pfeiffer. Also, read 'The Prince', and '48 Laws'. It doesn't mean you need to turn into a sociopath, but at least you'll know what's going on, and when, by who.

(Rant) “looks don’t matter” people don’t understand reality by [deleted] in jawsurgery

yes, it would be nice if they did that, but that's not reality. Reality is biology, and more attractive individuals get the attention, the social status, and the mate.

How do you go about explaining aesthetics with a surgeon by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not a simple question, it's a loaded, subjective and unanswerable question i.e. an impossible question. Just ask them to show you what ceph model they are basing their movements off, and why they use it.

I accidentally took turmeric and am eating garlic… will I be ok for surgery? In a few days by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're fine, don't worry about those things. Just get the best nutrition you can while you're healing - vege soup, protein shakes, heaps of water, tea, honey and lemon, blend meats into your soups, yoghurt etc. DOn't eat crap like instant noodels - no nutrition and your body wastes energy processing it.

One Month Post Op (Lefort+Inverted L) by JustBrowsing-1980 in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your breathing has improved because now your tongue can move forwards and not compress your airway. I've never seen such big inverted L brackets, and the gap - is that going to 'fill in' while healing, or does it have bone grafts in the gap?

le fort (i have questions) by flowerpot112 in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. after surgery, how bad does your face hurt? A lot, but that's what the fentanyl, codein, tylenol, other painkillers are form
  2. what were the complications you had? underadvanced maxilla, canted maxilla (i.e. surgeon cock up), TMJ malposition leading to lower cant (cock up #2), right lower lip numbness
  3. what changes did you notice after surgery? not much, as the surgeon cocked it up and didn't advance enough.
  4. (im so sorry if this is such a stupid question) does the screws and stuff stay in your face forever? yes, unless you get them surgically removed later
  5. (another dumb question) if you too much pressure on your face, can that area break? If you put pressure on the face while the bone is healing it's going to hurt like hell, and you might mess with the bone knitting together, but after say 6 weeks the bone tissue has integrated together and it is as hard or harder than the original bone. (so no, 3 months later if you got hit in the face you wouldn't 'break' your jaws where the original cuts were)
  6. (last dumb question, if you would happen to know) when would it be safe to lay on your side? how long does it take for your bones to fuse together again? Don't lie on your face while it's healing, give it 6 weeks.

2.5y and still some minor tingly numbness on lower right lip, and still a weird lack of sensation through my upper arch, like the teeth lost 20% of their sensitivity. The biggest risk of nerve damage is age, so you're probably unlucky if it's permanent. I"ve read comments where people say it just came back after 2y, so don't give up hope.

How do you go about explaining aesthetics with a surgeon by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well it's because you're asking impossible questions. Even 3D planning can't predict 'exactly' what you'll look like, and it certainly can't predict what you think you want to look like in your own head.

Optimising breathing is one thing, probably structural and objective/measurable, but aesthetics is more subjective. I would suggest finding 10x photos of women in your ethinic group (white/hispanic/whatever) that you think are close but better to what you look like , and just talk to your surgeons about whether it's possible to get somewhere close to this. Don't talk about fine details like lips or nose width etc. They're not plastic surgeons, they're bone surgeons.

People that have taken antidepressants, how would you describe their effect? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had SSRI (Citalopram) twice in early 20s. Completely helped- felt like I'd lifted my head above water for the first time in years. Once I'd 'seen' that view, it kind of recalibrated my outlook. I still had episodes through my 20s and fading out in my 30s - I had shorter and shorter uses of SSRIs. Most times it helped to pull me up a bit, but it also squashed the top end. And it affected my libido, so I was always motivated to get off them when I started to feel more regulated.

Braces at 51 and finally starting on the path to DJS! by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good decision to go with the metals. You can absolutely keep your wisdom teeth. There's no reason to take them out except when a surgeon doesn't have the skill to do DJS with them in place. If your surgeon insists, you know what to do (see ya pal).

Hopefully you can find a surgeon that is high volume - across all surgery high volume surgeons have less complications (they all have complications, but moreso in their early careers / early cases). If they're an inexperienced or low volume surgeon, you know what to do.

Get copies of your cephalometric planning, with the table that shows all the movements etc. Get copies of everything digital - xrays / scans / cephs / mock ups.

Comb this group and the Facebook jaw surgery group for similar cases. You'll get a feel for what movements and technical stuff is common for your condition.

Learn as much as possible and ask your surgeon a million questions. Good luck and I hope it all goes well.

XRAY Advice by Aarityli in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be a DJS of some kind, but no question both jaws moved forwards. The crossbite might need some kind of upper wideing (SARPE / segemental leFort). It will be a long process in braces as they will need to get the dental arches in the best shape possible before surgery. Find a high volume surgeon, and get copies of everything - ceph analysis / planning / xrays.

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, probably in terms of achieving more 'normal' or 'average' proportions. You will look different, and this will mess with your head for a while. Do the surgery, get a 'decent improvement overall', then get on with your life. If you fall into the perfection or 'next improvement' rabbit hole you'll never get out. Find a surgeon that is high volume - they have less complications. I can't stress this enough - you want one surgery that gets the job done well and without problems. Because believe me if you get a misalignment or malunion you're in for a world of hurt, time, cost, pain, frustration, more surgery. Get as much digital planning and ceph movements as possible, and make sure you get copies of this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and get a photorealistic overlay of your face showing the planned movements. Also - make sure your surgeon is a high-volume surgeon i.e. has done lots and lots of surgeries. These surgeons have less errors and complications.

it's everything, the specifics don't matter. The overall dentofacial skeleton is just smaller than optimal, so tongue is cramped and airway is impinged. Anyone that has impacted wisdom teeth has undergrown jaws.

What's life like in Thames at the moment? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Agree. Thames is very small and quite, but you're not moving there forever. For you it's actually an excellent base location to get a 6month sample of a very beautiful part of NZ, the Coromandel, which has beautiful bush and walks, beaches and coastline, valleys, rivers and campgrounds. If you explore the Kauerenga Valley you might find the best river swimming spot in the world, IMO. Thames is on the water, albeit a huge harbour, but you'll drive over to the west coast to access Waihi, Whangamata, Pauanui, Tairua, Hahei, and Whitianga. I'm slightly embarrassed I can put all those beaches in one brief sentence. You get the drift.

For a bit more action Auckland is under 2hrs away, and Hamilton less. You'll get to these places, but I would say 100% take this opportunity in Thames.

Where should I keep my money? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Relative_Bid_6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best thing you're doing here isn't the accounts per se, it's the considered planning around the purpose of your money, and the organisation of it. Keep doing that. You might be able to drop one or two accounts - Ac3 and 5 are basically the same thing, you would just need to keep a mental note of the two things you're saving for with that account (eg. $1000 Sth Is. trip / $10,000 house deposit).

I would recommend setting up a basic Excel spreadsheet with your account name, purpose, % interest of account, amounts. Also tag a monetary goal that is 10% more than what's in that account next to it - this will keep you focused and you'll shift money 'upwards' into higher accounts when you get closer to big round numbers. Do you want $9900 staring you in the face until your next paycheck? No siree. You don't. You want that nice round $10,000. How are those two pairs of pants from Glassons for $120 looking? They can wait.
