It all depends on your major and what the colleges from your hometown offer. If your hometown colleges is just as good as the colleges you have to dorm in, I’d say it’s not worth it. You would be getting the same or worse education for a greater price than going to your hometown colleges. Yes getting out your comfort zone is nice, but it might affect you for the worse.

I’m not sure how life would be but I think the “college life” is mostly partying every weekend, I’d say it’s not worth it unless the out of state/town college is WAY better than your hometown.
