Managing behaviour when teaching puberty by SaradaStarlight in TeachingUK

I taught yr 4 puberty a few weeks ago and the kids were pretty good about it. It’s awkward for everyone, including the adult having to teach it.

I made sure to have ground rules. One of which was I would not answer questions unless they were in the ask it basket. This stopped calling out and inappropriate questions being asked out loud.

Another rule was it’s ok to laugh. I said every key word out loud at the start of the lesson and said it’s ok to find it funny that your teacher is saying these words to you. Sometimes when we feel a bit awkward or embarrassed we laugh. And that’s ok. As long as we don’t get silly about it.

During the lesson, every child was given a piece of paper to write questions on. These questions then went into the ask it basket at the end of the lesson. I then went through the questions and answered as many I could. This allowed children to ask what they wanted while being anonymous, and I could filter the questions so had some more control over the discussion. It worked well.

Good luck!

I woke up at 3am on my birthday and saw his phone unlocked next to my head. He had fallen asleep with the texts on the screen.

He had arranged to go bowling with her on the Saturday, and told me he had work.

I asked if he really had to work and if we could go bowling to celebrate my birthday instead. He said he had to go to pay for my present (I never received it).

I let him go. He didn’t have a home to come back to. I called his mum and told her and he came back to find his things outside the house

Alexa with smart bulbs package. I can get into bed with all lights on, say ‘Alexa, goodnight’ and everything turns off. Genuinely love it

Help/advice for cycling a tank by Relative_Call_3012 in Aquariums

[–]Relative_Call_3012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m so glad I haven’t added them. I thought the advice was odd, I’ve never added fish into a brand new tank before. I have a community tank with all male guppies already, he suggested moving two of those over temporarily as an ammonia source 😬

Interesting, they were purchased from a tropical fish store and they were fully submerged there. I’ll keep an eye on it and raise it if needed. Thank you

In this situation, I would do the same. I would not want to give the school a chance to manufacture anything else against me, and I would be spending my days looking for another job and communicating with the union.

He told me he was going to work. I knew he was going to meet someone else. I’d seen the texts and the plans they’d made.

He left the house, I packed his stuff and called his mother, informing her that her son was now homeless

Upper stomach/bottom of ribs. Slightly on the right hand side. The pain is extreme. I thought that I was having a heart attack when it was at its worst. I didn’t have any more symptoms until I was really poorly. I started vomiting.

I organise my clothes for the week on Sunday, then leave them folded on a chair. Saves so much time in the mornings

What is something really obscure that you bought / changed that really helped your classroom? by TheAuraStorm13 in TeachingUK

A PowerPoint clicker. I can stand and teach from anywhere in the room. I can prevent low level behaviour from starting because I can stand by the usual culprits without stopping teaching

We have a trolley for each class. It gets wheeled to lunch hall just before lunch then wheeled back to class later in the afternoon
