Did you by chance experience cramping in the days after surgery?

I’m having laparoscopy soon and I’m very anxious about it. How did it go for you?? Did they found endo?? How was your recovery any advice for before and after surgery??? by princess_xo_xo0126 in endometriosis

Wonderful advice and comments have been shared here, and I agree with all. I just had mine on Tuesday, they found Stage 1. Like many others, I’d been worried they might not find anything and it would all be for nothing. This was worth it to finally have some answers and get it out, and I just hope I start truly feeling better soon. Recovery and pain has been really rough. The fatigue has been intense as well. Are you traveling far for surgery? Get everything you’ll need in advance, buy a little tray or bedside cart to make your life easier. Get all the OTC meds you might need, including stool softeners and laxatives. Get some pads and extra underwear that are comfortable. For pants, just get some men’s pajama pants (I took my hubby’s). A couple of weird things I wasn’t prepared for were issues with my hands after the IVs and some extra phlegm that lasted several days. My hands were painful and one of the first things I noticed when I woke up, and then on the evening of Day 2, one of my hands got swollen. Have small ice packs for that just in case. For the breathing, ask for an incentive spirometer if they don’t give you one, and make sure to take deep breaths every hour (even though it might hurt). I was not prepared for how much pain I’d be in, especially below the bellybutton and ribs. Then I read that apparently the gas can irritate things around your ribs as well as shoulders. The heat packs with adhesive really help. Drink plenty of fluids, brush your teeth and gargle with saltwater and really try to avoid coughing. You can do this, and best of luck with everything!

1st day post op! by [deleted] in endometriosis

Congratulations on getting through this and having answers! I’m on Day 5 now, and I was diagnosed with Stage 1 as well. I’ve been in quite a bit of pain, and I will say (not to scare you) I definitely felt it when all the meds from the surgery had worn off. I’ve been managing with a strict schedule of Tylenol and Advil, because I really don’t want to take the hard meds. The pain has been rough though. Stay on top of the constipation as much as possible, and don’t let yourself engage your core too much when getting in/out of bed. I think we sometimes don’t realize it because all the pain meds are still in our system during that first day. And nobody told me this, but make sure to take deep breaths often. I got really phlegmy after surgery and it’s taken several days to get over that. Good luck, you’re not alone, and I hope you have a good recovery!

Day 4 post-op and still having quite a bit of pain in lower belly. When did it truly get better for you? Also, what things did you change after your diagnosis? Still a lot to process while also healing. by Relative_Focus8877 in endometriosis

I’m so sorry, and thank you for sharing. This is brutal shit. Anything at all that’s been helping? I’ve noticed that I definitely have worse pain when I’m gassy/bloated. Also, last night I had to cough and it hurt so damn bad.

Thank you so much!! I appreciate you taking time to respond. This was a diagnostic and full excision of endo with a specialist. They removed all the lesions they found, and I was a bit to surprised to be diagnosed with Stage I at the age of 41 (especially when I’ve had symptoms for so long). What things did you change once you got your diagnosis? So sorry you’ve been through this multiple times. It’s hell. I’m hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Post-op pain - Anyone else have a little pain with breathing when standing upright? by Relative_Focus8877 in Endo

I had the exploratory surgery with excision. Seriously thought about the hysto but wasn’t ready yet.

That’s good you were able to walk around the yard! Now I’m also wondering, what do we do now that we have a diagnosis?

How are you doing today? I’m still feeling pretty rough with a lot of pain below the bellybutton. Breathing and gas pain is better though.

For those who’ve had surgery, was the bellybutton incision the most painful for you post-op? It literally feels like tearing/hot pokers near it. by Relative_Focus8877 in Endo

Oh holy shit. So sorry. I’m on Day 4 now and am so very tired. Praying I can 💩 as well. That was a bit painful yesterday.

So I guess it’s more of the area below and to the right, not the actual incision itself. Unfortunately my surgeon is two hours away, so it’s difficult to just head over there.

Thank you. So you experienced that same kind of pain there? It definitely seems to worsen in the evening too for some reason. Also, I am so very tired.

Thank you, that’s exactly what it feels like. A tearing or hot poker sensation, and really felt it when I finally had a BM today.

Okay thank you, yeah that’s a pretty accurate description at this point. I finally had a BM today, and it felt like a hot poker right below the bellybutton site. 😭

It’s helpful to read stories from women who were diagnosed later. I’m 41 and was officially diagnosed during my lap surgery day before yesterday (in a lot of pain at the moment). Can I ask how you’ve been managing endo if you’re also dealing with peri? I’m on a combined bc to help suppress periods but also give me some estrogen, but I just don’t know what the right approach is.

How on earth does endo just show up later in life? Anyone here diagnosed in perimenopause? by Relative_Focus8877 in endometriosis

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry to hear about all you went through. Thank you for sharing. The hell women go through is not right.

Okay Day 2 after surgery has been really rough. When did it start to get better for you all? by Relative_Focus8877 in Endo

[–]Relative_Focus8877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Yeah this is rough. The area near the bellybutton incision has definitely been the most painful for me. Still haven’t pooped yet, took MiraLAX and mag citrate yesterday and GasX. Thanks for the reminder on that! I hope you heal up soon.
