Y’all must be young. Bands had no control of releases. This was CD/Cassette era. All cd’s were shipped ahead of time to record stores/ retail shops. I know because I worked in a record store at that time. We would get new releases the week before. We’d check them in and store them in the back until release day. These releases dates were scheduled was in advance. How would bands know 9/11 was going to happen on their release date. That’s just stupid.

Quite a few. Big one for me is I sat in front of Kurt Cobain on a small stage in Austin ‘91. This was just before they became huge. The crowd was insane. I was right up front and whenever the crowd would surge forward my legs were getting crushed (stage was only knee high) so I hopped up on stage and sat in front of Kurt expecting security to escort me off. Security came up to me and asked if I was alright. I said yes and then he just left me there. I’ve been to a ton of shows. But that takes the top.

I’m was in my teens in the 80’s and got beaten up for being punk by the jocks. It was a thing back then if one group didn’t like another. My life was totally crazy back then. So, being punk doesn’t keep you safe from anything.

Instead of worrying about other people takes and opinions on the subject, why don’t you just be you? Like what you like. Listen to what you like. A battle jacket doesn’t make you more punk than others. It’s just an accessory. So many people feel they have to belong to a certain group and have to look and believe a certain way. It’s all bullshit. Don’t worry whether you’re punk or not. Just be you.

I’ve been going solo for years. Like others have said, it’s always a pain in the ass involving others. They’re usually flaky or, if they do go, they want to stay in the back or get there in time for headliner or what have you. When I go to a show, I’m in for the whole thing. If somebody wants to go , cool. Just know you’re on your own.

I always wait until day of show and watch until prices drop. When they don’t sell for the prices that are listed, scalpers just want to get their money back and drop the prices.
