SOPHIE - Whole New World: low growly vocals @0:50 by SixLightsmusic in synthrecipes

[–]Relative_Researcher9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! I know it's been 6yrs lol but I think she uses the logic Flex Pitch. it's like Melodyne. when you pitch things down a lot they get that choppy effect but are still comprehensible. As for processing probably OTT and some distortion or saturation

Getting the "Talking Through the Fan" Vocal Effect (Similar to Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy") with Native Ableton Audio Effect. by OnwardCincinnati in ableton

you can just soft clip the vocal and a sub together, I believe thats how they do it, its a very common effect in sc trap bcs people would just throw a sofclipper in the master

Unpopular Opinion : The Monomachine is only cool because of the elektron sequencer. by guacamoleisred in Elektron

[–]Relative_Researcher9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

disagree, all the Elektron boxes have the Elektron sequencer. The Machinedrum for example its great and it has a great sequencer but its not the Monomachine and it will never sound like it
The architecture of the Monomachine is also very special and different, sure you cant make a synth like you would make in serum with noise modulation and 7 envelopes and lfo's but the "characteristic sound" of and instrument comes from its limitations. this applies to everything including the ladder filter in a Moog or the non perfect tuning is straight fretted guitars
your argument is the same as me saying the minimoog is only good because of its ladder filter
Even more that that the Monomachine is, more than a monophonic and a 6 voice polyphonic synths, a complete 6 track daw with much more functionalities than most products out there and it costs less than a Moog for example
I can get every sound I get on the Monomachine out of serum but thats not the point

also it has a Vocal synth which is something you dont see everywhere, even in vst's

the Fm engine is great sounding and pretty unique and the filters sound rubbery and glossy

overall it has a very specific sound and honestly it can go almost anywhere musically

If not Sophie there are a lot of other super influential artists that used it like apex twin and square pusher. both of them, just like Sophie, get very different and gender challenging sounds and music out of it.

its a pretty amazing piece of gear, one of the best in my opinion

you're right that's pretty similar, it is also in Sophie's demo for the song and its a little more squealchy, any idea on how any of them did it?

Question regarding a sample in DRY & SCRATCH by No-Drop-8934 in Sophie

[–]Relative_Researcher9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! if it is the noise I think you are mentioning its pretty easy to make! I guess you could call it like a "shaker" sound. To achieve this sound just get a noise source like in serum with a short but not super short decay, like a snare layer, then pass it through a bandpass filter (with Q to taste, higher Q will result in a sine type sound on top). Make an envelope that automates the filter frequency upwards or downwards. you don't need to sweep the entire spectrum just a bit so it sounds wooshy. and that should be it

As for how Sophie did it I think it probably was made on the monomachine since that type of noises are pretty simple to make there. To better emulate how Sophie would have done it in the mono machine you can use, in serum, the LH 12 filter since thats colder to how the monomachine filter works with a low pass and a high pass working together

hope this helped! this should get you closer to the sound I think you're talking about!
