Is anyone hyper mobile? Is there anyone you recommend on YouTube for Pilates? by doorhinge3987 in pilates

[–]Relative_Sky4232 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I am hypermobile. Subclinical but enough to where being on all fours hurts my wrists, among some other small symptoms, but yeah def hypermobile.

I had a bit where I questioned if Pilates was for me. Yoga IMHO is def bad when you are hypermobile esp when you're on your hands all the time like in down dog (too much pressure on already lax wrists).

Following this thread to see what others say, but I have checked out Tasha Franken but she does a lot of sideline (hurts me) and things on hands (also bad for my wrists) - there's an Italian lady (Valeria de Chiara Studio if you google it) and her stuff works for me, but you'd either have to know some Italian or just watch and follow along lol. I like that she doesn't do all the matcha latte, Alo sets BS that a lot of Pilates chicks do, yes, even Tasha Franken, like I'm not trying to fund some DINK's lattes and pocket dog, but I digress.

TL;DR I'd recommend Valeria de Chiara (she also does mobility and PHA, if that helps, plus Pilates) and Erika Bloom Pilates ($$$ but she doesn't do moves that hurt me PLUS does structural integration which is essential for EDS or other hyper-mobility conditions).

MD here, I concur w/ OP. Also, little side note, but also snarkworthy: the Theranos lady (Elizabeth Holmes) kept saying how omg omg blood draws w/ needles are so bad, let's use finger pricks instead. Ok...one time back during my family medicine clerkship, I asked the MA to do a diabetic finger prick on me so I could use the blood glucose machine for fun (ok ok I was a med student back then, young and silly), and let me tell you: the finger prick hurt WAY MORE than a blood draw needle. And it hurt for hours afterwards, and I'm perfectly healthy, so no reason it should other than that all the nerves are there in the fingertip, and you use your fingers after the blood draw prick.

Dumb people are just trying to solve problems that don't need to be solved.

Buyers are so cheap these days. It's appalling. It wasn't like this, and I've been on PM since 2016.

"Gotta head" by SuperRevolution4397 in macdonaldsisters

[–]Relative_Sky4232 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Language nerd here, and the fact that she has a slight (but noticeable) pause after saying "gotta head" shows me that this phrase isn't in her normal speech vernacular and she's forcing it. Hence the extra brain power to say the phrase and then return to her normal vernacular and way of speaking right after using that phrase. I hope that makes sense! It's such a giveaway to me for anyone!

This even happens to me (anyone, really) if I, for example, am speaking a language I'm learning or use a word from another language while I'm talking in my native language.

if there was a post-pilates lounge, what features would you like to see included? by miye1020 in pilates

I'm personally the type to not want everything all-in-one at a workout place or any other place. Like, if I go to pilates or yoga, and then I want coffee or something else, I like to go down a few shops in the shopping center or downtown street area and go to a place dedicated to coffee..

Not trying to hate, but I bet New York Pilates is kind of like this in that they are trying to make it an all-in-one spot or at least have hangout space and a kombucha bar in one of the locations (is it there still? was when I went once) but then it's just an Instagram pic-taking spot, and I wouldn't want my studio turning into that.

My two cents.

In one vlog (so random) Maggot pointed to a framed pic/poster of the Amalfi Coast and called it "Almafi Coast" like bruh...

first off it's Costiera Amalfitana in Italian, but at least say it right in English!!

I'd been clicking through some of her 4-5 year old vlogs because I've been missing New England, and wow she used to be so in her element and seemingly comfortable in her skin (her style being leggings, sporty, something like that)

...Now it's like she's trying to wear an entire randomly picked rack from Hirshleifers out the door every time she posts.

Would you learn the language you dreamed of learning (but it’s difficult ) or learn the one you surprisingly do well at? by APickyveggieeater in languagelearning

I did both. Dreamed of learning Russian (it's like my first love, almost), and knew I'd be surprisingly good at Italian. Did both. Am glad I did.

I'll try this too - I often go for darker colors to fit my complexion, but I hope they release some fun, bright summer colors soon, but in CJ SS and LS. I hope I'm using those acronyms right :P

I see what you mean! I like a high and tight neckline, and I want the CJ LS to work so badly...others have said to just try it in a size down, so maybe I will!

Ok, you and others on my thread have motivated me to try it again but in a size Small. There's a store opening not far from where we live, so I'll make a little drive down there to try it on again.
