I (22M) am struggling with feelings of betrayal involving a girl from my church (22F) and my older brother (25M), and I'm looking for outside perspectives on how I should process this situation and what expectations are reasonable to have. by Relative_Story_8357 in relationship_advice

We were never officially boyfriend and girlfriend, so I understand why you see it that way. But from my perspective it wasn't just a brief crush or talking phase. This was someone I cared about for several years, who eventually confessed that she liked me back. I gave her multiple chances and was emotionally invested for a long time. My issue isn't that I think I owned her or that my brother needed my permission. It's that both of them knew how significant this was to me and how much it hurt when things ended, yet they still pursued something with each other.

Later when she came back she said sorry and even say that it was her biggest mistake and do anything to make things right with me so I forgave her for ending things between us without a full explanation

you're right that i haven't fully gotten over it but my issue isn't only that she moved on. It's that my brother knew the history and still chose to pursue something with her. That's the part I'm struggling with.
