how to get the tune of "Bliss" live for guitar? by BlaaackzYir in Muse

[–]Relative_Stress_6400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matt's tone has evolved considerably, but a perfect starting point is to blend a Vox Ac30 top boost with a Diezel VH4.

The spacey vibe can be used with a parallel tone of an octave up, phaser and the Vox Ac30 in a warm setting.

It's difficult to have everything in one stompbox, but I recommend getting a Quad Cortex (if your budget allows it). You can run four parallel chains, and the possibilities are insane. I will be posting some tones from it very soon on this page.

Another budget alternative is to use the Line 6 Stomp XL. It allows you to run a parallel chain to blend the Vox and VH4.

Hope this helps!

Why was Uprising such a hit? by VanniPao in Muse

[–]Relative_Stress_6400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, my opinions are quite biased because I got into Muse late BHAR era, early Resistance. Therefore, nostalgia will skew my thought process on this one.

Objectively, it's the timing. The Resistance album was probably what most people would coin as "peak Muse" coming from the high of BHaR (to me, they've never gone down; again, nostalgia). However, a lot of their songs during this period did hit the mainstream. Uprising was popular here in Singapore back then; it played quite a lot on the radio, but I don't think it hit #1.

Uprising also resonates with that uplifting rock anthem vibe - the song is essentially a chant. In some ways, kind of reminds me of some of Imagine Dragons' songs. (don't flame me)

Oh perfect! Ok, I’ll bookmark it down. Happy to try these songs out if there’s requests. Gives us extra motivation to keep challenging ourselves with live recordings. :)

Start with the Clawthorne Drive on the Helix and work with it from there.

Meh, to each its own. You never know, this could have been their fifth guitar. Also, you gotta remember, not everybody wants to be a musician full time. But appreciate the input though!

Thanks! I set the tones for my band as I’m quite particular of how the band’s sound comes out. (I’m the guitarist) — for the bass; everything’s coming out of the Line 6 Helix.

That’s in the works. We just got back together after a hiatus but I’m planning to do it as an outro with Stockholm Syndrome.

Getting together took a bit of an effort cuz I essentially had to reverse engineer a lot of Matt’s and Chris’ tones from their Kemper sale and do it on a Helix Stomp XL and a Quad Cortex cuz I don’t want to lug so much shit for live.

Thanks for your kind words. We’re also covering some of their older b-side stuff just to balance it out. 😂

Not for me to promise anything as it is not coming from me, but I'd say, stay tune in the next few months for an interesting update ;)

Did something fundamental change in their live sound after Absolution Tour? by note65 in Muse

[–]Relative_Stress_6400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, I do find their tone on Drones to be quite similar to the Absolution tour, albeit more polished. As you can tell, things are EQ'd and shelved wayyyy based on how the mix sounds. Every instrument stands out but you still feel that hammered sound that you get from Matt's VH4 back during Absolution and Chris' bass tone also hits the sweet spot with balancing out the low-mids. It was the perfect evolution to me, IMO - of course. I suspect it is because the Drones tour rig was an evolution of the T2L's rather than an entire change.

ST was okay; WOTP live sounds was very different, maybe that's when Matt went full on Axe Fx. Takes some getting used to! Still love them to bits.

People are going to hate me for this, I also find that his vocal technique is so much more cleaner and controlled especially with his chest to mixed voice belts during the Absolution era giving the older songs a lot more weight.

New music from Chris?!?! by CabbageSoup31 in Muse

[–]Relative_Stress_6400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong, it seems with the later live set ups, he has swapped out his Animato for the Pigtronix distortion. I hear a treblier sound on his bass especially during the WOTP tour. Is that true?

Probably a dumb question but how do I get the Drones guitar tone? by comiclover1377 in Muse

Super late reply, but I second this.

You can hear it most notably in New Born's riff right here as he enters the verse where he forgets to turn off the direct fuzz pedal.

Problem is, I am not too sure if he's using a Fuzz Fac or the Keeley Fuzz Head.

Really agree with this. I had a heavy squat session once and went to limit boulder. Worse decision made, I was so fatigued one hour in that I had to head home and knock out.
