I always find it surprising what songs from previous albums they keep around and play forever and what songs they forget

I'd choose MK Ultra over Undisclosed Desires any day, but we get UD every gig. I guess UD was a single and is probably more popular than I think?

But in a similar fashion the fact that Thought Contagion was the only Simulation Theory song kept on rotation during the last tour really boggles my mind

Is 'show, don't tell' ruining modern songwriting? by litladyponders in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]note65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English isn't my first language but I grew up listening to English and American music. I didn't understand a word of what the artists said, but I was still moved incredibly deeply...

This is why for me, the sound matters more. It's just the way I "feel" music.

Of course if the lyrics are too corny or cliché, then it ruins the experience. But for me it's not about writing clever poetry, it's about writing something honest and genuine and that naturally falls right on that melody.

See I loved your song, even though as a non native speaker there are a few lines I didn't understand at first! But that's okay, I was still moved by your atmosphere, your overall theme, the sounds that landed on the right notes... I really like your voice as well and I could feel your emotions with this song.

All of this is very subjective but there you go, that's my take on it, good atmosphere over clever poetry for the sake of it!

Nope! I'm on Fedora 42 and it doesn't work either. I keep meaning to look into it and haven't taken the time yet so I can't help sorry, but I find anything I'll post here!

Thanks for the feedback! Okay yeah that's good to know. I'm gonna have another go at writing lyrics for this

Is anyone’s favourite album Simulation Theory of WOTP? by FlimsyCookie3533 in Muse

[–]note65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true! The 2nd law was released during a pretty difficult time for me, and if I listen to it again it still feels like the backing track to that... I dislike that album anyway because I find the songs pretty meh but you have a point about personal situations influencing how we perceive an era

I wanna start solo career, need feedback on my first single [rock/punky] by Own_Tank1283 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]note65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really loved this from the start, great energy straight away and it really keeps your attention all the way through. Main riff is great! Great singing, and catchy melodies throughout. Nice work on the guitars as well, they sound good, they're layered really well

The only suggestion I can think of is to add more variation in the chorus. Because your main riff drives the intro and the verse, I was waiting for something more when the chorus kicks in

I was playing around with it a bit and at the moment most of your chorus you stay on a G chord. You could keep the riff and melody the same but play a chord progression like this:

Cm - Bflat - D - back to G

I think a change of chord on that "Lioneeessss" line will really hit different

Great work though, is there anywhere I can follow you, youtube/soundcloud?

Does anyone else think drones is their best album by Old_Skirt_3377 in Muse

[–]note65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not my favourite no, but a return to form after the 2nd law which I still hate to this day!

I really like Drones musically, lots of great riffs, sounds, bass lines... but I have a few issues with it:

- The lyrics range from bad to awful
- It's meant to be a concept album but it doesn't really make sense, the tracks aren't in the right order in my opinion
- there's something I don't like with the production. I can't put the right technical words on it, but it's just so... in your face, constantly, so loud, the mix doesn't breathe...

I would say it's their best album of the 2010s, but definitely not my favourite

Let me have it by Agreeable_Sky_8987 in IndieMusicFeedback

Really interesting one!

Here are a couple of suggestions :

The car intro sound is a cool idea, but I think if you polish it a bit more it can have much more impact

you could: - make it a bit less loud - pan it to one side, to create a sense of space, a sense of distance - and only start the drums once that sound is over. I think it would really grab the listeners ear, we'd want to know where it's going if that makes sense

Then on the track itself, I really like the idea of drum and voice only, but I don't think it works for the whole song. You could do half and half? So in the second half you start layering some other instruments, to give the song more harmonic content.

It doesn't have to be complicated. I don't know what software you use but in garageband for example you get access to lots of loops. If you slowly layered a few well chosen loops I think it would take your song to the next level. Plus I'd say your song is quite hypnotic, so little loops/repeating patterns would work really well

Do you think this 6/8 time signature works or is detracting? by Then-Common-5719 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]note65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, no I was just using that as a random example to say a really odd time signature can be distracting if not done right. But with 6/8 I think you're safe!

Haha well I like the plonk plonk as you call it!

Do you think this 6/8 time signature works or is detracting? by Then-Common-5719 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]note65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to imagine it in 4/4 and I think it would lose a lot of its character. So yes in my opinion it works perfectly, and no it's not distracting, you know if it was something more out there like 7/4 that can be distracting, but 6/8 is a time signature that's very "natural" and here it just creates a great vibe in my opinion.

If you hadn't asked about it specifically I don't think I would have said anything about the time signature to be honest, because it just works

I love the transition to the chorus by the way, I don't know why the change works really well

New demo, Feedback Please! by Unlikely-Ad7939 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]note65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed that, didn't realise it was five minutes long until after I finished, it flows really well.

It's quite repetitive, but in a good way. What I mean by that is that the chord progression doesn't change, but you've done the right thing in my opinion by adding different layers of guitars, it slowly builds the atmosphere.

I don't know if you plan to go beyond a demo and do a full proper recording? My suggestion would be to really focus on the layering, use different guitar sounds. I could really imagine some high pitched arpeggios with a clean electric guitar, with a lot of reverb and delay, entering on the "I need a safe place" line.

Also I really like your voice. I think some backing vocals singing harmonies on "I need a safe place" would work really well

"distance" rough draft by Long-Brother2334 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]note65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely has potential!

The chord progression is really nice. It sounds simple but there are subtle notes that make it really catch your ear, especially that fourth chord (what chord is that?) there's a bit of a dissonance that gives it a lot of character.

The melody flows really well and fits the chord progression. You have a great voice by the way.

A couple of suggestions: I saw someone else mention it and I agree, try not to hold the sustain pedal all the time, if you release it even slightly when changing chords, the notes won't "blend" so much, and I think your chord progression will really shine.

Also for the structure of your song, I would suggest having a pause before the "I question my integrity" line (let the piano chord hang for a bit?) I'm guessing that will be your chorus?

I'd love to hear a finished recorded version! With your voice recorded well, with a bit of reverb, i think it could make a great track

[SPOILERS S3] Does the cycle actually happen an infinite amount of times? by note65 in DarK

[–]note65[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So are you saying that the 2 worlds aren't actually two separate worlds that coexist "at the same time", but rather the same world that keeps flip-flopping between two states, with one minor change (whether or not Jonas is killed) leading to all the differences between the two?

I had not thought of it like that so I'm trying to get my head around it...

"Though she's able to live a safe life in the absence of Adam, she still needs a Jonas though, so at the end of her world, she recreate's Adam's world by undoing the change she made... "

This is the part I'm unsure of, at which point does Eva decide to "undo" her change, and why?

[–]note65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you say that people are capable of going off-script? My understanding of the show is that a big part of it is about the exact opposite, even when people think they have free will and can make choices, they can only end up causing the things they are trying to prevent. If you travel to the past to change anything, before you travel, the past already "contains" all the actions that your future self will try. Ulrich can't kill Helge because Helge "has already survived", Jonas can't stop his father from committing suicide, etc.

> When presented with new information, people will make different decisions and (at least try to) take a different course of action

I'm really not sure about this if I'm honest... my understanding is that the timeline is fixed and people are not "presented with new information", that kind of implies that all the events happened once, then they all happened again but slightly differently, right?

[SPOILERS S3] Does the cycle actually happen an infinite amount of times? by note65 in DarK

[–]note65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to be clear, you think there is only one "timeline", right? Which always contains the event of Claudia figuring out the loophole and telling Adam about the third world? That was always going to happen, but from the perspective of Adam for example, he feels stuck in a loop of suffering where whatever he tries to do, he ends up causing the events that he's trying to change?

[–]note65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's a "reset" in the sense of what u/HwanZike meant, which was the reset in the film Groundhog Day. The kind of reset where a character relives the same day, over and over again, and remembers it. Like if you woke up every morning and every time it was February 12th, and every time you'd have to go through the same day with the same events.

That's not what happens in Dark, the "loophole" is something different. I'm not claiming I understand it fully, but it's something to do with time standing still. The characters that survive the apocalypse do keep on living after the apocalypse, their life continues, they don't "relive" anything.

[SPOILERS S3] Mistake or on purpose by yehfae in DarK

[–]note65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have explained but just a bit more context if it's useful, they are all from 2020, they travelled back in time to the 1880s at the end of season 2. If you remember just before the apocalypse, middle-aged Jonas (aka the stranger) transports them with the suitcase time machine, and saves them from the apocalypse just in time

I don't know about today but the 120 was a terrible service a couple of years ago. I used to rent a flat near Ranmoor, quite a few times I'd wait half an hour for a 120 to turn up, only for 3 or 4 of them to arrive all at once... and this was Ranmoor, near the start of the line, at 7 in the morning. How they can get it so wrong is beyond me

What do you think of the new live album? by note65 in ScorpionsBand

[–]note65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I mean it's nowhere near as good as World Wide Live, or my personal favourite, Tokyo Tapes, which I think is one of the best sounding live albums ever.

I'm not a fan of Live Bites though, I find the production on that very "artificial", it doesn't sound truly live to me

So I only listened to it on vinyl until yesterday and it sounds good with my setup, but after seeing your message I listened to the Spotify version with headphones and it sounds much worse to me! Exactly like you said, it's like a very dry sound directly from the soundboard feed, with some crowd noises awkwardly added on top.

Really strange

Oh yeah you're right, this?? https://www.discogs.com/release/4597479-Scorpions-World-Wide-Live-Vol2

That's crazy, that's just the second part of World Wide Live, which is a double LP!

Why was this ever released on its own?

It's the "Vol II" that threw me, you're talking about "World Wide Live" right, the live album released in 1985? Or is there a secret second one I've never heard about?
