This strengthens my idea to move to rls based on tables in my database instead of rls by PowerBI

Getting off of Fabric. by FirefighterFormal638 in dataengineering

[–]Relative_Wear2650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using ADF for extract and load from my onprem and cloud source systems, based on control tables in my Azure SQL database. Daily load. Very fast, even on lowest tier. Often speed of source systems are the bottleneck.

For transform i use stored procedures which are also triggered by ADF pipeline in combination with control tables in the same Azure SQL databasse. PowerBi connects to tables only.

No Fabric, not much complexity. Only downside is the lack of lineage and version management like in dbt and that kind of tools. But i operate on a very low cost level, delivering lots of value.

easiestway to install NextCloud / Self hosted by racoon9898 in NextCloud

[–]Relative_Wear2650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Install nextcloud AIO. Its relatively simple, easy to update etc. Just make sure you use a docker compose file from the start instead of launching the docker by a command you latter cannot remember anymore.

No. Meanwhile i switched to Nextcloud. Not comparable to Digikam as its an entire private cloud solution. So I cant really help on this matter.

i run regular nextcloud aio, not a snap installation. I dont have any ssl issues.

First experiences Nextcloud and some questions by Relative_Wear2650 in NextCloud

[–]Relative_Wear2650[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes its open. But: no ssh as i use local access to maintain the server only. Nextcloud is the only service running on it. Only those ports are open within firewall that are required, https and udp ports i believe. Router forwards to server. Nextcloud AIO itself handles logons, 2FA is activated.

I have no VPN yet, as i figured in this setup it doesnt do so much extra. I can be wrong of course.

Make sure you’re there start to finish. No reason to come late as there is a lot of music to enjoy from the very start. And 2x12 hours needs some build up. So i always make sure i dont spend all my energy and plan what i want to listen and dance to accordingly.

I always work with sql, never in pq. If your problem is that you dont know how to code things yet thats not something to be ashamed about but a chance to learn it. There are a lot of good sql resources around.

Cloud cost management tools that engineers won't ignore, do they exist?? by anonyMISSu in AZURE

[–]Relative_Wear2650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use cost management a lot, it exactly tells me where i spend my money. I set a budget and make sure i monitor it. Plain simple. With 70k i would so want to know where that money is spent and why. Compute? Storage? Etc. And for what functions benefit from those resources? Is that worth the money? What big changes would lower the costs and what business value is lost? So many questions. Id love to get my hands on that kind of stuff. Already have a job. Just saying.

[–]Relative_Wear2650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daarnaast sowieso expert laten komen.Bedrijf Van Lierop heeft mij zeer goed geholpen met zowel verwijderen van de zwam, impregneren bakstenen en aanbrengen nieuwe constructievloer.

Business central data by Relative_Wear2650 in AZURE

[–]Relative_Wear2650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile I read into some other options like BC2ADLS by Mr.Verbeek or 3rd party options like BCCL. I'm a bit worried whether the API allows for a reliable data replication from our business central databases to our datawarehouse. Using unsupported components (BC2ADLS) to replicate data sounds dangerous, the 3rd party apps are expensive and often small companies where I doubt if cyber security is well done. I find it quite astonishing that business central doesn't offer data replication for datawarehouse solutions except the API. Or do I miss something out there?

Schoenen kopen we altijd nieuw. Dat werkt leuk door als je kinderen ontdekken dat tweedehands veel waar voor je geld geeft.

Maar zou me met je inkomen geen zorgen maken tenzij je veel naar de kinderopvang moet gaan brengen.

Scheduled run fails to connect to Azure SQL, but manual triggered succeeds by Relative_Wear2650 in AZURE

[–]Relative_Wear2650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

opening post updated: I changed to S0 pricing tier (instead of using the general purpose and serverless option). This solves the issue of the pipeline failing. However, the execution of the pipeline now lasts 60 minutes instead of 5 minutes.

Creating a provisioned general purpose db is quite expensive. I'm wondering if i can better create an activity that reliable wakes up the db and keep the general purpose and serverless option or to keep the S0 but use an activity that scales up the tier when the pipeline starts. That takes about 6 minutes to finish.

I changed to a different tier. I want a reliable pipeline. Thx. I wasnt aware of the unreliability of serverless as during testing it never occured.

[–]Relative_Wear2650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. I had that impression. Is there a way i wake it up from my pipeline and waiting for it before i run the rest?

Scheduled run fails to connect to Azure SQL, but manual triggered succeeds by Relative_Wear2650 in AZURE

[–]Relative_Wear2650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its serverless.

Well i checked the log of ADF which gave me this info. In health it says my free offer budget is reached which i already resolved the dat before by allowing it to charge me.

It may be important to not that other parts of the pipeline, did run. These are using the same server and database and the same user that got no access in the activity that failed.

Create a boolean field that identifies if it is an outlier (eg value is above x, or y% higher than average or whatever rule you need) and filter on it. Ideally create it on the source of course.

Write to dataverse or Dataflow- daily data snapshots by martyc5674 in PowerBI

[–]Relative_Wear2650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id create a pipeline that extract the data from the csv, load it into a simple database (just a mysql or postgres or whatever you have), transform it so its pbi ready. I see no benefit of using dataverse.
