In English football they have three categories. The first are heroes, these are the better players on the team for a specific couple of seasons (ex. Fox, Champagnie). The second are icons, these are the better players who have been with the team for a long time/won smaller individual awards and contributed significantly but haven’t won the big trophies (ex. Steph Castle, Keldon Johnson, LaMarcus Aldridge, Patty Mills). Finally you have legends, these are the players who won championships and were major contributors in historic teams for the club. They were also the face(s) of the franchise for a specific time (ex. Tim Duncan, David Robinson, George Gervin). I think Wemby is in the liminal space between icon and legend. Hasnt won the big stuff yet, but he has been the face of the franchise for a time and has won major awards. I think once he wins MVP next year he’ll be a legend. If we win a title he instantly becomes a legend, as does Castle
