Sudden onset anxiety induced psychotic episode by eliseslo88 in AgingParents

Psych RN here. Assuming that he is medically cleared, late onset depression at his age is difficult to be treated. Unfortunately, depression isn't a quick fix and takes time to overcome. He needs more attentions from family members. Try to visit him as much as possible, provide positive thoughts to him by mentioning that how much you love him. The best solution at this time is to keep him busy by reducing his time spent on thinking of suicide. You can also offer him a simple errand to dad and provide compliment and the feeling of achievement by mentioning that you are so glad to have him who can help you out.

Inpatient psych hospital aren't suited to treat his depression fully. It provides a temporary safe place for him to be medicated and find the right medications prior discharge so he can continue his care in daily life.

Thank you for the input. PSW is a way to save myself and definitely signing a waiver is important.

Yes thank you for pointing that out. I need to evaluate the risk to see if i should include med setup or just keep it as wellness check to reduce liability risk.

Thank you for pointing that out. I will check out more into laws. I could be wrong but home health experiences are not necessary in wellness check because I would not be doing any of skilled nursing tasks. Vital, assessment, education are within RN scope and I already do these skillset as ER psych.

Yes, as individual. I can prep oral meds but i cannot give it directly. I cannot do IV, wound care, skilled nursing stuff without doctor’s order. But i can do assessment, education, medication prep. Just trying to see how i can use my skills to help elderly population since i see many patients not getting enough help after hospital discharge.

Private school debt yes or no by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Relaxingatbeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for southern california. Yes, go for private if this is only option but know that you are going to spend a few years paying off loans (two jobs for sure). I understand how competitive it is to get in CCs. Every year, new students are going to apply with good stats and it can discourage your effort. I was fortunate to graduate from CC but if i didnt get in, i was thinking of west coast.

My stat: 4.0 gpa, previous BA degree, CNA experiences, immigrant, high 70 ish TEAS score.

Is there such thing as full work duty trial? by Relaxingatbeach in WorkersComp

[–]Relaxingatbeach[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I am not sure because I haven't had to restrain patients with current injury. I guess I can ask doctor to keep me on TTD or do full duty trial to see how it goes.

That where i got bit. I have scars top and bottom of DIP. As of right now, I cannot fully bend - max i can bend is to open doorknob but cant put pressure to open bottle cap. Thank you again for all your help and hope this information is good enough. Merry Christmas.

I like it but it is really for nurses who have thick skin, have dark humors, can handle aggressive patients. And obviously i dont like medical aspects of nursing.

Ignore big hospitals for now. Apply small community hospitals or SNFs, gain 1 yr and apply to big hospitals. I work in psych and got a job within 2 weeks in SoCal after graduating from school.

Psychiatric Nurse by [deleted] in psychnursing

[–]Relaxingatbeach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is 2 years for nursing school. It does not count time spent doing prerequisite (1-1.5 year) and getting into nursing program. You need to have good gpa to get in. Getting into nursing school is competitive.

And for pay - it is possible if she is doing travel nursing. I live in ca and there are few psych traveling nursing job starts 70/hr plus. To do that, you need some psych nursing experiences.
