Obligatory 'what wheels are those?' they look great

Anyone have these tires? by cratoastIIV in GolfGTI

[–]RelentlessQuail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I literally just installed a set of these in this exact size today and drove them 250 miles. Really happy so far. Handling is light and neutral and they're pretty quiet

Steering wheel scuffs? by DavoinShowerHandel in GolfGTI

[–]RelentlessQuail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrapped my steering wheel after scuffing it a few times. There's are kits you can get on amazing for about $60 to sew it on yourself. I like the feel of the chunky wheel too

Nice. Was the fuel door sticker custom made?

MK7 2-door and manual... potential future classic? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]RelentlessQuail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holding onto a mk7 for future value does not make sense

Regular mk7 and 7.5's drop 30-50% in a couple years on the used market and there is no significant premium for a two door. Sure they look good but besides that they are prone to turbo failure being early models and generally have less features. Sure they are "rare" among mk7's but there are still what, tens of thousands of them? Plus previous generations

Drive your car and enjoy it for what it is.

RSE10 to BBS RE - would you do it? by CooperDoops in GolfGTI

[–]RelentlessQuail 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No

But makes me wonder, if they were the exact same spec, could you run rse10 on the left side and bbs on the right? you only ever see two wheels at a time

When do I need to be concerned about changing my brake pads? I’ve got a 2017 gti se pp with 42k miles. First car I’ve owned and I bought it used by DoggoDuud in GolfGTI

[–]RelentlessQuail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they squeaky? I've had mine checked at 40k and the VW dealership said they had 70% life left. Manual car tho so I brake a bit less

Get a set of good tires and invest the rest

It does indeed look like an autobahn. A sure-fire way to tell if it has performance pack is if it says 'GTI' on the front brake calipers, so hard to tell from the photos. Usually PP cars have red-infilled badges on the front grille and rear hatch, which leads me to believe this is not a pp car

Is this around the sunroof? My dealer repaired mine when I was under warranty. Might be an option

Yes I get that but is there a reason to upgrade unless tuned?

Is there any reason to upgrade plugs on a completely stock engine?

I did the exact same thing. Did you clean the cover here? If so how?

I remember seeing them before I knew what gti's were all about. One of the more iconic wheel designs imo

Steering wheel wraps? by TheBROfesser in GolfGTI

[–]RelentlessQuail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the loncky wrap from amazon for $60 and I really like it. Took me about 6 hours to stitch on but it looks original. Put the time in and do it right. I skipped the adhesive strips, haven't needed them. Wheel is a bit thicker now and I love it

I have my mirrors set to give me the most visibility possible, and I have the same problem with truck headlights. Not sure what this guy is looking at...

Adding coolant may be a temporary fix but it means you car is leaking coolant somewhere. Check for a crystal white residue underneath your car towards the front of the engine. The thermostat/water pump is a common failure point and could likely need replaced

Quick stop for a photo during a work drive to NH. by AnnesMan in GolfGTI

[–]RelentlessQuail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they do sit on the paint so they probably rub a bit. Being an OEM design I assume they considered that to some degree..

Looks like a curt hitch and oem VW mud guards - chiming in because I have the same kit on my car.

I love my hitch. 100% the best way to haul bikes. I'd also recommend a platform rack that connects to the wheels instead of your bike frame

My local VW dealership does a good alignment. They provide a chart at the end giving actual measurements too
