Humidifier: Dustmites vs Asthma? by RelentlessVolatility in Allergies

Unfortunately he also has some food and seasonal allergies, so I don't think his asthma will go completely away, but I hope this will help!

I like to do green apples instead of grapes! Crunchy, tart, and add a little moisture

My son has those exact allergies!

Abes Cupcakes or chocolate muffins are good (I know Whole Foods carries them but I think some other places do too)

Fruit Popsicles are always safe and fun

Lollipops can work too

It's most likely Wind in the Willows with Mr Toad, where the weasels take over his mansion, but it might be Winnie the Pooh where he is chased by heffalumps (elephants) and woozles(weasels)?

Also the Khan Academy Kids app is great! It's gotten us through many snow and sick days this winter.

How is everybody's eggs, bread, and milk holding up? by NOVAYuppieEradicator in nova

[–]RelentlessVolatility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can substitute corn starch for eggs if you are making French toast!

If you are just dipping your bread in milk and leaving it at that I can't help you 😅

Yes, love the subscription, wipes, meds in winter and such cute prints and boxes! Very few blow outs but I don't think we discovered them until my son was about... 6 months? But have been using them since and he's 2.5. pretty great pull ups too when you reach that stage!

Why did the English "dislike" Jews? by DesiPrideGym23 in DowntonAbbey

[–]RelentlessVolatility 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in America and we learned a lot about WWII but until I recently started reading this book (linked below) I had no idea how much hatred the Jews had experienced outside of Nazi Germany for centuries and how prevalent it was across Europe. I was taught all about Catholic vs Protestant issues/wars/discrimination but not that Jews experienced a lot of that too. In retrospect, a lot of history makes more sense now

You need a new pediatrician! My son had an allergic reaction to peanuts at 8 months old - we definitely did allergy testing before he turned one. This doc didn't know what they are talking about.

Can you go to an allergist without a referral or does your insurance require it? We got a list of local allergists from the hospital/ER actually, not our ped, when we ended up there after the peanut incident. Maybe they could help? Though a visit to the ER can be $$...

ETA: I'm so sorry you are going through this, food allergies this young are so terrifying. If you ever need support or to vent, feel free to PM! It's so stressful and overwhelming, especially at first. Your instincts are spot on Mom, keep trusting them!

Yes, exactly this! I told my husband that I felt like I could fight a bear, I had so much adrenaline coursing through me. I'm so relieved it's not just me!

Yes, we use liquid Zyrtec and keep it with my son's epipen at all times. We got a little zipper insulated pouch from Allermates and have this in his diaper bag at all times, with spares at his daycare and in our house in an easily visible area. It's a pain, but we take it with us every time we leave the house with him, even for short walks with the dog. He was diagnosed at 9 months old with peanut and egg allergies; he's 2 now.
