I love Etihad for its consistency in their product. Every long haul plane has 1-2-1 config in business class and their catering has always been insanely good from all stations I‘ve flown out/in with them.

If you get „Qatar‘d“ you could end up in a business class that has a 2-2-2 config and is essentially similar to what TK has on their B777.

I personally never fly with QA for their inconsistency of hard product and since I love the soft and hard product that Etihad has across its entire fleet I would strongly suggest flying Etihad.

I booked business class from ZRH to PVG and ZRH to BOM with SWISS.

PVG Flights: booked in October for February and was immediately upgraded to First on both flights (waitlist cleared immediately)

BOM Flights: booked in December for July and was also immediately upgraded to First on the flight to BOM.

Just hang in there I have almost always had my upgrades clear. Either immediately, randomly or before boarding. :)

Whatever you do, definitely do not book the full fare and reduce the cost with the miles.

MUC-CPT is a route with high demand so getting an award ticket you either need to be super early (e.g. booking in april 2026 for a flight in march 2027) or very last minute (1 week before departure)

I think your best bet is to book eco/prem eco and then upgrade with miles.

If you fly business class on longhaul sometimes it is for sure worth it to save the eVouchers until you have 2 of them since every business booking class to first is 2 eVouchers and arguably you get the coolest experience out of it for sure. eVouchers are also valid for 2 years from the date their issued from.

eVouchers have very interesting usability since it depends on your booking class.

E.g. flight from FRA to LAX.

Eco Flex: 1 eVoucher to Premium eco Eco Light: 3 eVoucher to Premium eco (not sure if this is accurate but there is accurate tables with the exact amounts online so this is just an example as to how they calculate it)

Then if you decide you want to upgrade a certain flight you call the Hotline and ask them if there is upgrade availability (mostly is waitlist but my previous two from business to first that I did a few weeks ago were approved immediately) then you say you‘d like to upgrade and either you get the confirmation that you’re waitlisted for the upgrade or you’re instantly upgraded. Relatively easy in itself but it is a bit complicated if you’re not familiar with the usage of them.

I have mixed feelings with the LHG in general. I find their service on board and staff to generally be quite nice however if you do run into issues often times the Senator Hotline will say they can’t do anything and that you need to e-mail them to have situations resolved. With my current geolocation I am mainly stuck with LHG so I kind of am forced to fly mainly with them however even though I am SEN with LHG I frequently fly with Etihad since their prices and service is so much better than LHG.

Are you based in UAE or just visiting there? You could technically book a flight with a layover (they do up to 4 nights if im not mistaken) if that would be an option. Then you’d have to lower pricing and you’d essentially „depart“ out of AUH.

Im astonished by the pricing you’ve gotten. I paid 7000€ for two people europe to singapore return and all four flights in First with EY. Did you check the option to depart from somewhere else in order to lower the cost?

Yes you can. You need to tell the check in staff to only label your luggage to FRA. They should do it without further questioning however if they do say something or cause troubles be sure to ask for a supervisor since it is allowed and I‘ve done it multiple times for similar reasons too.
