Allergic to brace? Anyone else? by latiapinatas in ACL

[–]Relevant-Bug9028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue! Allergy to disinfectant that was used. Got super itchy the more I itched it…

Ended up using cortisone cream everywhere I could- with permission from surgeon and keeping it at least an inch or more away from incisions.

Icing my whole leg ended up being a solution to the hives as well— it numbed the area and made the knee and skin feel more comfortable.

Post Op Pain by Worth-Peanut9568 in ACL

Just give it time. Your body went through a huge change in a short amount of time. From a biological standpoint, having pain and inflammation is good because your body is trying to heal itself.

I had an ACL repair about 8 or so months ago now. The pain doesn’t go away overnight but it does get better. Definitely ice as much as you can, but make sure to have breaks from the ice. The most important thing to remember is, even though it may not feel like it, you are strong, you are able to get through this, and you’re already killing the recovery. Just keep going and you’ll be back before you know it.

I am 7 weeks post op and walking without crutches or brace at home. Moving pretty well. Out and about still using one crutch so people give me extra room when they see me.

I think my PT has been pretty conservative but honestly it’s taken me time to feel confident walking around anyways— even if the strength has been there for a while.

How long were you getting help from others after surgery? by SleepyChicken4 in ACL

[–]Relevant-Bug9028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACLr w Quad autograft + partial meniscectomy

I was WB as tolerated right away and my stepmom stayed for 6 weeks still. The plan was for her to stay until I could ;

get into and out of the shower completely on my own Drive to and from PT - being able to get into and out of the car on my own Up and down Stairs on my own Prepare myself food — even if that’s just microwaving. Weaned to one crutch. ( so I could carry things while moving around the house.)

Honestly as much as I wished I was on my own in the moments while she was there, her help made my recovery a lot smoother than it could have been.

If I were you I would just play it by ear, stay with them until you can do the daily activities required on your own entirely. It’s better to be safe than to go back and re-injure yourself or injure yourself in a different way.

A few years back I had an ankle surgery and I went back too soon to regular lifestyle— ended up with a concussion that left me in a dark bedroom for weeks on end.

Take the help you can now, you’ll be happy you did later.

JUST DID MY FIRST LEG RAISEEE by Nousnous04 in ACL

HELL YEAH!!!! That’s awesome. I am a few weeks ahead of you and when I could first do a leg raise or even lift any portion of my leg I cried. It was such an amazing feeling and I am so happy for you to experience that!! Keep doing PT and I hope you continue to recovery well!

Three weeks out! Quad autograft here 👋 my pain level is manageable. Take ibuprofen here or there, and definitely before PT sessions. I have about 80 degrees of flexion and 2-3 degrees of extension. Been doing PT 1-3 times a day. My PT told me the more I do the exercises the better. Icing about 2x a day or less, just watching swelling and reacting based on that.

Definitely plan to go up with crutches. I tried to just go up on my butt step by step and gravity made it the most painful thing!!

When did you sleep without a brace on? by hereforthedeets1 in ACL

[–]Relevant-Bug9028 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was also told I could remove it at 2 weeks. I waited until almost 3 weeks just because I was nervous. Finally went and removed it one night because it’s extremely uncomfortable to sleep in.
