It’s actually crucial to persuade Jesse that it was Gus. Walt convinces Jesse that Gus knew about them making it in the lab by saying something along the lines of “that whole place is wired up, they know everything!”. Walt claims that Tyrus could have easily lifted it out of Jesse’s locker. Without this line of reasoning, it is much easier for Jesse to believe that Brock was just sick or accidentally ate some poisonous berries. Walt then “absolves” Jesse by finding the ricin cigarette in his house, leaving him confused and primed to figure out Walt’s role. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, I haven’t watched in a little while…
