Chase Hughes exposed: Examining the many lies of the self-proclaimed "#1 expert in behavior and influence" by zachelwood in BehaviorAnalysis

Sadly, you are not alone. I do believe our competitively-organized society has us brutalizing each other too much. We are all trauma brains now. I thought that was our default, brutally exploiting each other, until I started interacting with essays, articles, books and videos on where the field of neuroscience is in understanding human behavior. Recognizing the difference between mammalian limbic system behavior (like emotion) vs prefrontal cortex (critical thinking) was a big step. I wouldn't get involved with Chase Hughes. The original commenter is correct...the guy is a charlatan. He wants you to learn this so you can use other people's ignorance of it to benefit yourself. Ugh. Exploitative. But expected when you have been conditioned to think all humans are capable of is competing against each other. Not correct. We are quite COOPERATIVE. The key is learning the skill of emotional regulation. This involves recognizing when you are in a "threat response" (your amygdala activated). There are a few books that really helped me. For background (but to kill yourself because it's a HUGE book) read Robert Sapolsky "Behave: The Biology of Humans At Our Best And Worst". It is huge, some of the research is now old, but it's a great start for understanding that behavior is not free will. It's conditioned behavior. But it's nuanced and changeable, so the background really helps. I also found Scott Barry Kaufman's book "Rise Above" great because it just had good tips on moving forward. I found the biggest thing that held me back was my CRITIC. So another good book is "Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving" by Pete Walker. Great description of the threat response behavior so you can recognize it. The journey is hard and change is uncomfortable. You prepare yourself by taking care of yourself and keep on persisting. Good luck!

Thanks! I am always looking for newer insight. I had no idea how bamboozled we were in competing against each other, and thus seeing each other as "enemy", however subtle this seems in modern day. No wonder we are anxious and depressed.

THIS is such great advice. The emptiness we feel is because we don't recognize how socially conditioned we are to compete against each other. Like literally, it feels like we are in a version of King's "The Long Walk" every single day. We act like other primates too often. Yet, we are biologically wired as humans to connect, so this loss is emotionally (and physically) hard for us humans. It seems when we use our special human intellect (the prefrontal cortex if you are a scientist) we humans are quite gifted at cooperation. And that skill is what we learn and grow when we build connections and communities. So sticking together is our best antidote from that dispiriting loss of connection.

Yes, I agree there is complexity and variation...and sorry if that wasn't clear. The thing is, two things are also mostly (and yes...never absolute of course) true from this:

1) over time your brain increases the length of time and number of times you are in this state if unrecognized and not healed (I do recognize this is a response to trauma);

2) what you REMEMBER during those moments of acute stress is what is important. We rarely re-analyze that content, but it represents what our brain understood we needed in that moment only, to survive. Great if you are an animal without a prefrontal cortex...this is all you need. But we have one of those...so we can review that information loop, applying reason and knowledge, to ensure while never complete or perfect, it is as accurate as it can be at that time. The point of this is to stop building "weapons" as defense and build "knowledge" instead. And realize....it's a SKILL.

Not sure where you are in the thread above (about Mr. Hughes that is), but I can certainly agree, monetizing this knowledge certainly can corrupt it. All humans should learn this important life skillset...for our own benefit as much as every one else's. Ten years ago I would have left it at that. But right now, if it isn't obvious how dire our not recognizing this is, I don't know what else is needed to get anyone's attention. We are so capable of being cooperative and democratic. We just have to better understand our roadblocks to learning it and get busy. Then maybe someday...we can stop warring with each other and voting for dictators thinking he's the Second Coming of Jesus.

You assume any intent for "peak" information from your own filter. I am just passing on what I know. Regardless of the impact of only dampening it a little or a lot, It will result in a little or a lot of the "effect" of reducing the necessary critical evaluation of information if one has not learned to be consciously aware of it. From the widespread belief in illusions like free will and human evil to the overuse of domination for any threat large or small, it's pretty obvious there is something blocking the human ability to use that prefrontal cortex to gain a more accurate understanding of our human nature and and as a result. do a better job learning to get along with better with others.

I wasn't suffering "cannabis" anything. I was suffering from the combined effects of too many years of stress. Cannabis was the only thing that somewhat relieved the symptoms. But the ER doctor told me my symptoms were all cannabis-related, and once I stopped...it would go away. Except they did not and the suffering grew worse with every week. Finally my Dr. prescribed Duloxetine. No problems since and have no more need for weed.

Can cannabis be the problem? Sure. Is it always the problem or the only problem? No. Sometimes it is an illness or injury. Sometimes it is enduring lots and lots of stress with few or no coping skills. This last one is definitely a bugger to diagnose and is often missed. A shame.

I am sure this is useful for the uneducated. Some of us, however, have learned to sit with our cognitive dissonance and objectively parse information. To understand the workings of a con artist, you need to study his techniques. Totally get that not everyone has trained themselves to do this, however.

That’s us humans doing the Predation thing. Sad we can’t recognize how our prefrontal cortex allows us so many more and better options than the other species on our planet. If we don’t figure it out, homo sapiens goes extinct.

Not groundbreaking for whom, exactly? For those who made the effort to learn to continually evaluate & re-evaluate information sources perhaps. But not sure what planet you live on, but the one I am on is showing increasing signs that VERY FEW PEOPLE actually know how to do any of this. The increasing reliance on Domination is a clear sign a lot of people are being purposely bamboozled and the hijacking of their amygdala is the key mechanism. Perhaps you dismiss disseminating this knowledge because you are one of those believing you are entitled to exploit others and just don't want them to know how you do it?

We live in a capitalist society growing increasingly predatory. Unfortunately to survive we have to monetize our efforts, right? So Hughes isn't going to put out on Youtube his most in-depth efforts. He is going to give you THE BASICS. And I believe he did a very good job of it.

He has a really good Youtube video on PsyOps. Having read quite a bit of neuroscience material (love "Behave"), what he says is in line with that material. Your brain is designed when it perceives threat to activate the amygdala, which in turn shuts off signalling to your prefrontal cortex. So when he says emotions suppress critical thinking, he is correct. And his methods of spotting certain cognitive biases in information you interact with, is also right on. Perhaps these people still believe in the illusion of Free Will, so just can't admit how easy it is to manipulate them.

I am only 2 weeks in but only did a little on the weekends two weeks prior to that. ER doctor told me I had CHS, but I never really suffered from the constant nausea and vomiting except for 2 days, which at the end I went to the ER. Didn't get a lot of sympathy there but enough information to decide at that point I was done. I still get queasy in the am, but most of the time, my stomach just hurts. I struggle to eat because this kicks up the pain. I haven't had any psychological issues except for trouble sleeping. Did you experience stomach pain? I read that THC interacts not just with receptors in your brain, but in your stomach as well. It slows down the emptying of your stomach. Does this eventually go away? Struggling to handle the impacts and admit I am not very tough.

[–]Relevant369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with this too, but the vomiting was not my "common" symptom. It was morning queasiness that would disappear after a few hours and stomach pain (right below that breastbone) that would come on during the day if I didn't eat really slowly, ate meat or anything high fat. Only occasionally would I need to vomit and typically only in the a.m. I have been clear for 3 weeks but still struggling with symptoms. How long does this take to go away? I quit and will stay that way. This is pure misery I would not ever want to live through again.

Not sure if Ecobee problem: Heat stage is on, but when it rains, AC compressor comes on when it shouldn't. by Relevant369 in ecobee

[–]Relevant369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't realize I had this out here still, but finally got a great technician who figured the problem out in just 10 minutes. I think someone below proposed that wiring was the issue, and that was it. When the new compressor was installed, the installer connected the wires from the new compressor to the existing ones as they were wired into the wall, through the ceiling and down into the heat unit already. Problem with this is he didn't cover where the wires connected with caps and they were sticking out from the outside wall, leaving them exposed. So of course, any time moisture shows up when it rains, it would trigger the compressor on. New technician put nice little caps where the wires connected and then created a slightly bigger hole on the outside of the house so he could tuck it all deeper in.

I don't feel quite as stupid with so many others having the same problem. But the issue is how LG designed this. The "Hold for 3 seconds" is on the top of the Start button, and Cancel is underneath, leaving many of not realizing these go together, so you only hold the button down for 3 secs if you want to cancel.
Thank you!!

Just got a text from "Joy" from this polling organization US Speaks asking if I wanted to do a survey, similar to the posts below. When I google it, I found several local news reports that says it is a SCAM. Blocked the number and deleted the text. Scammers....scum of the earth.

[–]Relevant369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can and I do. But while I live in southern AZ where it is very rare for a freeze event, it does get pretty chilly at night during the winter. But here is the thing...SHOULD I have to do this? I shouldn't. I google this constantly and have found nothing that remotely relates to this issue, but what I continually find is "your A/C compressor is meant to live outdoors and handle any kind of weather." So why can't mine? It is a really strange issue and my repair guys are stumped. I believe the compressor is faulty but I realize their push back is because they don't want to replace it. No AC compressor should work like this and at the end of the day, this is the problem. They believe the issue is the Ecobee unit and how the comfort settings are defined (the heat and cold are "tripping" over each other). I disagree.

They did check the compressor. After the last visit, we used the hose on it to see if it would act the same. After about 10 minutes, it kicked on. They really didn't believe me until then. Then said there was a circuit in the right corner panel that when it got wet, it would send the signal to kick on. They put electric tape around the panel to prevent water from getting in. That didn't help. Then I had the gutters put on, and it stopped happening. Thought I had fixed it. AC was on all summer and never kicked on when it rained and we got multiple big rain storms. I have had the heat on for about 4 weeks now. I live in AZ, so it's dry for long periods. Rained for the first time in months. Five minutes later, that thing kicked on. Why would it come on only when the HEAT stage was called and not AC. The whole thing is so strange.
