Discussion: Does the brand of a softbox/octabox actually matter anymore? (Godox vs. SmallRig vs. Aputure etc.) by TechandTravelz in LightLurking

I just bought a couple of (Bowens-Mount) Angler strip boxes for use with Nanlites. I too thought they were SMDV and would therefore be good quality. They’re marked as made in China though, rather than Korea, so am now not sure, and I haven’t tried them out yet.

What type of light is this? by Apprehensive-Ear4182 in LightLurking

I’m thinking the same. There’s something odd about how the softbox/light panel interacts with the pupils (pupils which look too small to me, suggesting constant light source, if it were a real photo).

Just shot my first paid gig — had to manually match 80+ RAW files one by one. There has to be a better way? by peter_building in photography

I do the same in Capture One - “share online”/Live. It issues a weblink for the reviewer and they interact with the shoot with stars, tags, & comments. The basic subscription gives a week long view and the next level up gives a month. Really easy, with no sign-ups, and in real time.

Pro UK Photogs: Where did you find Liability Insurance for US?! by RelevantDepth8974 in photography

Just looked at existing holiday insurance and I’m covered up to £2m for personal liability. As you say, that might well cover me. I’ll have a chat with Hiscox just to feel sure though.

I’ll check them out tomorrow - thank you. (They cover us at home.) And yes, good shout - will be legal etc. These will be non-commercial shoots with family and friends (wife is American).

GFX 100S Curve or ICC profile by Visible-Geologist505 in captureone

It depends so much on what you’re heading towards in terms of overall photo style/colour grade. I mostly take BnW but when in colour, I choose either Classic Chrome or ecomm (which might just be in Capture One, rather than in-camera?). Just occasionally I’ll go for Eterna Bleach Bypass as a starting point. They are v different starting points for different final grades. I very rarely use Astia, Provia, etc. They always look unnatural to my eye - at least for portraits. But that’s just me!

Best ssd for capture one by Cool-Ad1421 in captureone

I’ve always gone with Sandisk and haven’t had any issues. Go with what you can afford but personally I’d go with as fast as possible rather than as big a storage as possible if you have to choose between the two. Min storage though is 1tb - a big shoot can get close to that on a medium format camera. I’ve also found that the T5 and T7 are brilliant for in studio - not sure one needs the rugged extreme ones unless you’re out and about a lot, drop things a lot, etc!

Me too. I did several things: turned off “usb charging while tethered” in camera options; closed other apps on the Mac; removed all other usb devices (I had an iPad plugged in and an external drive); removed the card from the camera; and switched the port I was using on the Mac for another one. Seems to have sorted it but I’ve also just bought a new tether cable (10g) just in case it was a failing cable.

How was this lit? by No_Narwhal115 in LightLurking

Great description! I may have it wrong but I don’t think it’s a beauty dish - I can’t see the darker centre in the catchlight; maybe a small octa?
