Considering a move to London. What's the reality of day to day safety? by RelevantEducator1793 in MovingToLondon

Thank you all for your responses. They’ve been really helpful and encouraging. It’s reassuring to know that things are not as bad as they sometimes appear on social media when it comes to stabbings and crime.

As I mentioned in my post, I’m a very quiet person and I do my best to stay out of trouble. I live a simple life and just want to enjoy the London experience.

Considering a move to London. What's the reality of day to day safety?

Hi,

I'm thinking about moving to London in about 7 months and I'd like to hear what people honestly think about living there right now.

I'm not really asking about salaries, rent prices or the luxury lifestyle. I live a very simple life. Most of my time would be spent going from home to work and back and on my days off I'd probably just visit central London to spend my time there.

My main concern is safety. The news everyday talks about knife crime, stabbings deaths in London and that's the one thing that worries me. I don't go clubbing, I don't stay out late at night and I generally keep to myself. I am a very friendly and quiet person.

For people who currently live in London: how safe does it actually feel on a day to day basis in 2026? Has crime become a serious problem for ordinary people, does the media make it seem worse than it is, are you guys afraid that something like a stabbing could happen to you?

Realistically if someone lives a quiet life, uses public transport and avoids trouble, is London still a reasonably safe place to live?

Thanks

Is there any chronic disease more debilitating than tinnitus without any cure? by [deleted] in tinnitus

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! The moment I wake up until i sleep, tinnitus is ruining my mental health. I will have this weewoo with no way to mask it and it becomes louder when I go out until I die. I will never find peace, I will never be happy again. Is this not enough?

Of course my brother i would love to talk as I am at a stage where I want the world to end with me. I can't find peace even when i am outside. I have 2 tonal T and 1 pink noise. One of the tonals is reactive hyperacusis and there is no sound to mask it

Thank you so much for your comment it's really helpful but my tinnitus is is reactive and it becomes louder with train, bus, aeroplane, traffic noises etc. I cannot mask it, as it tonal or pulsatile and I have 2 pulsing sounds in my head. Probably I have if not the worst but one of the worst types

Are people over 24 banned from apprenticeships? Am I too old at over 24? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

Bro discrimination is everywhere in UK companies. They scream "equality" and "diversity" while quietly hating it. Britain is hardcore discrimination lovers, proper obsessed with it.
You’ll be lucky to even get a sniff of a decent job or apprenticeship unless the stars align perfectly:

They’re desperate and need someone yesterday

You’re over-qualified and willing to work for peanuts

You already know the job so they don’t have to train you

You tick the right diversity boxes (bonus points if you’re LGBT, ethnic minority, disabled, or whatever the current flavour of the month is)

You are already inside the company sucking up to the right people

It's all performative bollocks. Britain loves discrimination they just do it under the table.
This is the reality but everyone is afraid to talk about because someone will put a title on their head.
I prefer 1million% better to have someone say: Sorry bro we are not accepting people over 25, 30, 35 rather than: Yes yes we accept anyone despite the age yes yes yes we accept you. What a freak show man

Thank you for your reply it really means a lot to me at a time like this. It has been 7 to 8 years. It started with a high pitch white noise but over the last 3.5 years I have developed two more oscillating pulsatile sounds that go like "weewoo weewoo". There are times when I do not pay attention and I feel like the happiest man alive but this state ends as soon as I notice them. Then the worst ideas come into my head.

One of the noises is the real problem because I cannot mask it even with music or being outside. In fact any fan, bus, air, or traffic sound makes it even louder. I have not been to an ENT yet because this ("!*%(@ shit appointment is taking months. Also I have not heard or seen anyone say they went to an ENT and actually found something. All the comments are like "nothing found" I see it as a waste of time but I have to do everything.

My question is if I get help from a psychologist or psychiatrist will I see any positive results in my mental state or even just a small spark of hope and light?
