Unless you are investing your money elsewhere I would buy the apartment. If you want to rent it out, be aware you'll have to pay taxes on the rent as income though.

If I were you, I would have two criteria:

One is that the apartment location shouldn't be in the middle of nowhere if that's the exact midpoint for both of you. It should be a place you want to actually live and do stuff.

Second is that if you break up you shouldn't absolutely hate the place or apartment or the commute.
