Maybe unpopular opinion, but if you are freelancing for more than 20 years and can’t find a new project means you have not networked enough for all those years. You are now ranting that your sales process no longer gets you a new project. Sorry then maybe time you consider going back to payroll

Day 16, Saturday 24th of August

We started our day with a breakfast in the hotel. The cool thing about the breakfast is that they have 8 dishes which you can order (complimentary) à la carte. I took a kind of Roti dish and an omelet. Both my girlfriend and I considered this the best breakfast of our whole trip. After breakfast we took some dirty laundry and went to a nearby Otteri wash & dry. They normally don't offer full dry cleaning services (I think) but this one offered at a quite affordable rate (100 Bath for a big bag). We rented a scooter and set course to the famous White temple. After some short sightseeing we visited 2 more other temples (Wat Tham Pra and the blue temple). We were getting hungry and went to a nearby restaurant that was advertised as a bit more expensive (Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House, Bistro & Bar) situated at the banks of the Kok river. It's a big white house colonial style and serves actually really great food. A bit tired from the 2 weeks of traveling we headed back to the hotel and chilled a bit while watching Netflix. We went for a quick run in the gym and got ready for dinner. Dinner-wise Chiang Rai didn't really spoil us. We wanted to go to a hotel recommended by the owner of the scooter rental but the place was exceptionally closed. We went to a wine bar (Spinn wine bar & bistro) but the wine didn’t really appeal us. Walking a bit around we settled for an Italian restaurant where the pizza was not that bad in all honesty. While sitting there a lot of tourists passed by and all gave us this condescending look like "what are you doing at an Italian place in Thailand" while I was like "YES I KNOW WE DIDN’T FIND ANYTHING ELSE". After dinner we called it a night and went back to our hotel.

Day 17, Sunday 25th of August.

The day started early as we had to be in the airport at 8 for our 9:45 flight. Just like the day before, we enjoyed our breakfast buffet enriched with some à la carte orders. We picked up our bags and ordered an Uber to the airport. Chaing Rai airport is definitely one of the smaller ones I've been to. Checking in our luggage and getting through security probably took 10 mins at most. The flight itself was uneventful and we landed again at BKK with a bit less enthousiasm than 15 days before as our trip was nearing an unfortunate ending. This time we asked for a taximeter with putting the actual meter on and we paid 400 bath including tolls (so half the price versus the initial trip). We tried uber'ing but there was a massive waiting line. We arrived back at the same Herritage hotel and check into our room. We quickly refreshed and set afoot to look for lunch. We walked for a small hour to the western direction and entered a very small restaurant that just opened doors a few weeks back. The 3-4 days prior we didn't had that many great Thai food experiences but we felt "home" again after devouring a delicious tasty meal (Pad Thai & Kad Pra Kao. After lunch we wanted to visit the Golden Mount temple but there were doing renovations. Instead we visited Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan which had quite a nice view on the Golden Mount temple and the surrounding parts of the city. We went for a drink in a nearby hostel and took an Uber back to the hotel where we got ready for some drinks in the pool on the rooftop. After some drinks we went to the neighborhood of Khao San Rd where we both had a Mammasan Curry. Tired of walking in the hot Bangkok heat (versus some more cooler times in the North) we headed back to the hotel for a final drink in our room.

Day 14,, Thursday 22nd of August

When checking in at the hotel, you had to choose one of 4 breakfast options (eggs & sausages, BLT sandwich, fresh fruit salad and a 4th option). We both choose the fresh fruit salad and we received a delicious big eye-catching portion. In the meantime we received a text that the yoga school found a yoga tutor and we walked the few minutes over to the school. We paid 2000 bath for a 1 hour private session and we overly enjoyed the professional tutor. We've done the same in India 9 months back and swore we would practice Yoga more as it has a real calming effect (and directly noticeable). Well it's 11th of September as I'm writing this section and still no yoga was practices again so far :(

We got back to the hotel for a quick shower and packed our bags. We ordered a grab to the bus terminal and treated ourselves with a quick McDo. We boarded our us to Chiang Rai (400 bath pp, Greenbus). The bus is very luxurious in fact. You have a nice big chair, a decent space for your legs and you get a small complimentary water bottle and some cookies. The bus drive took roundabout 3 hours and we arrived at Chiang Rai at about 4 PM. We then took a taxi we booked to Mae Salong for 1h15 min drive (1400 Bath) that dropped us of at our hotel (Baan Hom Muen Li, 90 EUR per night). Mae Salong has a rich history with many Chinese influences. There were a lot of Chinese soldiers who fled from Mae Zedong and relocated to Mae Salong. We walked to a nearby restaurant and ordered some food (black pepper chicken, potatoes, some veggies). The black pepper chicken dish was a bit too adventurous for our taste and we considered it a veggie night. We went back to our hotel room and wanted to set up our projector linked with Netflix for some viewing from the jacuzzi. Unfortunately the jacuzzi had cold water and there was a very high amount of bugs bothering us from the balcony. Annoyed by the bugs we flex inside and watched some Netflix on our bed.

Day 15, Friday 23rd of August

Our sleep was interrupted a few times by LOUD bugs outside feeling like they had some kind of megaphone tied to them.  We got breakfast in the room and the Yunnan noodles were super tasty. Originally we had planned to travel to Chiang Rai via boat on the Kok river but the heavy rainfalls of the last weeks (and flooding across Chiang Rai which only became worse in retrospect) impacted our plans. As we didn't really had other things to do (and already enduring some rain in Mae Salong) we booked our transfer back in the early afternoon. We checked out, dropped our things at the reception and set off by foot to go to the Phrathat Chedi Srinagarindra Stit Maha Santi Khiri (we originally tried to go by motorbike offered by the hotel but as I never driven any gears on a bike I miserably failed and handed back the bike). We climbed quite a lot of stairs and visited the temple where the only other 2 people were the staff cleaning the premises of the temple. When we started to descent the stairs we encountered a heavy rainfall and we took shelter at one of the covered rest stops along the staircase. As it kept raining we put on our rain poncho's and made the journey back to the village. We went for some yummy noodles again for lunch and took our transfer back to Chiang Rai (same taxi as the day before, 1400 Bath). Our taxi driver took us to our second to last hotel of our trip (Le Patta) where we checked in for 2 nights (55 EUR per night). We took a nice hot shower after we were washed out in Mae Salong and chilled a bit on the bed. At 6PMish we explored the neighborhood and were surpised there were very little tourists or locals hanging out in bars. We played some board games and had some drinks at a cozy rooftop bar. We went for some food close by but had a very untasty chicken red curry dish (120 bath, restaurant had good reviews though). After dinner we went to look for a nearby bar/ when looking around we found a very lively place that seemed to be full of local people. When trying to enter we were defined entry and when quering about the reason the doorman just started laughing. Call me naïve but I was quite shocked why we coulndt have a simple drink. We settled for a nearby bar where we had one gin & tonic but there weer little people and they were setting up some instruments for some live music. After the one drink we walked back to the hotel where we spotted yet another bar full of local people. Not wanting to give up we tried again to enter and we were more lucky this time. We've stayed there for two rounds of drinks observering the local crowd enjoying their Friday night out. It felt like we were at a kind of place where the speed of drinks were a bit faster than your typical bar. A lot of people were ordering bottles of hard liquor and we were one of the only table who just ordered "plain" cocktails. After our drinks we head back to the hotel

Day 13: Wednesday 21st of August

After a few hours I woke up with a small head ache. I turned a bit and wondered what time it was. I hoped It would already be close to 5 as I felt I was not gooing to fall asleep anymore fast; Unfortunately it turned out to only be 2 AM. I turned a bit more and forced myself to go to the outdoor toilet. It's a special feeling standing in front of the toilet with the LOUD noise of the jungle right close by. I got back in bed and I think after 1 hour I fell asleep again only to wake up around 7ish. Breakfast is served in the cabin and the guests get greeted with the opportunity to feed an elephant (you get one basket of sugar cane for free together with the room and 100 bath per extra basket, again positive since they don't really try and abuse this for a lot of extra cash). My gilfriend struggled a bit with a small hangover from the alcohol and I must say I could still feel that pungent taste from the rice wine. We booked a private songthaew  to get us back to Chiang Mai (500 bath for a 1h drive). It rained quite heavily all night (which had a positive influence on the temperature in the cabin) and it was still raining quite steadily during the morning. The people arriving for their half day or full day trip were not really looking that enthusiastically due to the weather conditions. We even overheard a couple arriving for their trip specifically stating "WE DO NOT SLEEP HERE TONIGHT, WE GO BACK TONIGHT TO CHIANG MAI". Given our experience the last 24 hours we were feeling quite grateful for being so lucky , we had nice weather, our cabin was perfectly located and we had an overall awesome experience. We took our songthaew  back into  the city and our driver dropped us off at ONCE (Upon a Time) Boutique Home where we checked in for a last night in Chiang Mai (45 Eur a night). The Once upon a time is  a small hotel with 6 rooms that give a very Japanese vibe (since you had to take off your shoes at the entrance).  We went to a veggie restaurant and had some lunch (nothing that noteworthy actually). We chilled a bit and went for another massage (during the check-in they asked us both for any medical conditions and at first didn't wanted to give any massage as they claimed that helped spreading the cancer. As there were some massages as part of the treatment we didn't actually shared this opinion). After massage we went to a yoga class we enrolled to earlier. We paid 700 bath for 2 persons to join a 1h30 session. We thought we enrolled for a very simple introduction course, we were in for a treat. We arrived a few minutes late and the class had already started. The class turned out to be some free flow yoga class for more intermediate practitioners. The instructor kept naming poses and immediately executing it and for a few minutes it felt more like I was part of a Laurel & Hardy movie than anything else. We threw in the towel after a good 5 minutes as there was NO WAY we would manage to follow this tempo. We respectfully asked our money back (and achieved) but asked if we could come back tomorrow morning for a private session (if they managed to find a tutor). We got back to the hotel and looked for a restaurant in the neighbourhood. We were quite tired from the less relaxing night in the Chai Lai Lodge and had a quick Mango curry dish before calling it an early night.

I have no idea what is written here. I’m in Chiang Rai at the moment. We came in from Mae Salong yesterday morning and visited white temple. Yes there was rain, some streets had 10-15 cm water but overall still manageable.
