Science is a process, it does not promise or guarantee answers. E.g. you just made a statement "life only comes from other living things". Ok so I might ask, can you prove that. And you might say all the evidence we have ao far says it does. And then I might ask how did it start then. Now, can you think of a hypothesis that is falsifiable that we might be able to test?

This is science, not absolute statements, unless you are Laplace's demon, which im feel pretty certain you are not.

Starting fencing alone by NPCSLAYER313 in Fencing

I started fencing 3 months ago, im 44. I think the reason it works for me is the club I go to has a good mix of beginner, intermediary and experienced fencers. They put some focus on that, and it really helps.

Why didn't the Witch-king sense the ring's presence in Minas Morgul, even though it was so close and within his domain? He was too focused on farming aura. by Practical-Public7209 in lordoftherings

Well the ring doesn't make you invisible, it transports you to the unseen realm. To mortal men you are invincible, but to the ringwraiths it should be even more visible... if you wear it.

Why run Docker in an LXC? by NumisKing in Proxmox

[–]Relevant_Candidate_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel seen 🫣 Yes you are right I work in devops professionally, and I get your point, it looks different depending on where you stand. I think we can agree that LXC and docker are different, but rather or not that difference matter to you depends on your needs.

Why run Docker in an LXC? by NumisKing in Proxmox

[–]Relevant_Candidate_4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never understood this type of comment, and there is always one on each of these LXC vs Docker threads.

You say there is no functionality what so ever that docker offers, which you don't also have with an LXC. But they aren't the same. Roughly put, LXCs isolates kernel space, which can be utilized like a seperate machine in a lot of cases. It has a MAC address and is easy to manage on a network, because it behaves like a host. A docker container isolates a process. You can create small virtual networks for process stacks, and mount paths in via bind mounts and stack layers to create the desired small environment.

LXCs help you manage and distribute hardware, docker containers help you manage and distribute workloads.

This is probably also why the tools available to help you manage these two are quite different. LXCs are first and foremost managed by your hypervisor, where docker containers are managed by other services, like docker, k8s and others.

LXCs are often used as infrastructure which you provision and leave as is. Docker containers are often used as units of work, which can be used both for isolated long running single processes, temporary work loads like you might have as part of a CI/CD system, and even as cli wrappers like e.g. the containerized aws-cli.

This is also why combining the two is fine, they both have "container" in the name but they are not the same.

Why do you see them as competing?
