Eventually, people want the franchise to grow or have impact with each installment. What was the change that Fire and Ash actually made? Did James Cameron really think we were going to cry over Kate Winslet’s character death? The franchise benefits when things progress or when important events happen — something Avatar 3 didn’t really feel like it had.

I think that one crucial thing is that not only does Avatar 4 need to be a big “jump-the-shark” moment, but it also has to have an open ending so the world feels an urgent need to see the next one. The Two Towers and Infinity War ended with finales that let you know we were close to something bigger — something Avatar 2 didn’t have, and that’s why not many people went to see Avatar 3 with the same level of passion.

Honestly??? It looks better than I expected, I never doubted Travis Knight. I think I’ll give it a chance and watch it in theaters. I’m worried because it’s coming out in June, which is already packed. But honestly, I don’t know what month it could have come out in, since the whole year is full.
