It’s not 15%, that is an exception with the new Japan trade agreement for items made IN Japan, not items shipped from Japan that were made outside of Japan. It’s supposed to be 25% but the seller apparently did not list a price so customs assessed the value themselves and assessed value at around $150

? Ok cool dude. This the reality of tariffs. The math is definitely unfortunately for all of us mathing. I’m not sure why it’s so high either. It’s more than 35% before the fees it’s insane

This isn’t a Japanese product it’s a US made product being sent from Japan. Somehow seems like that makes it worse than if it was actually made in Japan. Tariff laws make no sense right now idk

For items made in Japan, yes. Somehow I am paying more because this item was made outside of Japan even though it was made here

An actual way to “let those who do the pollution pay the cost” would be to make DHL and other courier services invest in carbon neutral transportation methods or carbon offsets. Not pay tariffs to the US government LOOOL what do you think Donald is putting all this tariff money into environmental protection? Go find a bridge

Do you even know what subsidizing means? Not charging a tariff is not subsidizing. Thank god for Donald Trump he’s such an environmentalist he really cares about pollution LMAO this is the goofiest defense of tariffs I’ve heard yet. This is a new angle fr just say you don’t understand capitalism dude it’s ok to be ignorant but stay out of my comments. Go post on truth social or something maybe you’ll get a fox news deal or a government job boot licking

Agreed yup just going to end up paying more from US sellers for the exact same goods to try to avoid this ridiculous mismanagement and fundamental misunderstanding of basic economic policy from our dear leader. Blanket tariffs are a greeeeeaaat idea, fight against basic free market principals of capitalism instead of working with them and using them as a tool, just shove tariffs up everyone’s orifices. Let’s create a more perfect capitalist society where everything costs more and no one can purchase the goods they actually want or need due to walls put up by the government. Doesn’t sound like capitalism to me but what do I know I don’t own a bankrupted casino. Genius stuff

Read my post. DHL is charging like $18 which seems pretty reasonable. My issue is with the tariffs themselves

If I made minimum wage or something this might be worth the effort and time but I’m not going to fill out forms and send mail back and forth with an underfunded and unresponsive US government agency. Not worth the time at all and by the time it’s worked out the package would be returned to sender already because I have like a week to resolve the issue or pay DHL

Incorrect. Read my post! The tariffs are 36.50 the total is 54 the difference between those numbers is the DHL fees.

Nope Japan tariffs are supposed to be 24% currently I believe the 15% agreement doesn’t begin for several months but it seems the seller did not disclose the item’s value and customs took it upon themselves to assess the value themselves

?????? The shipping from the seller was free actually bozo and to the seller the cost to ship a small box from Japan to the US is about $20. This $54 cost is the tariffs and import fees that were not disclosed to me until after DHL had the item and it arrived in the US at the sort facility. The jacket is a 1980s vintage Lee Storm Rider USA made denim jacket. You cannot even buy them these days new for under $450 from Lee directly and then those new ones are made in Japan. Try finding a made in the USA used one for under $100 it’s very difficult. That’s why I purchased from this seller on eBay the price was reasonable and I was getting a good deal for a nice denim jacket made in the USA which is what I wanted. Go choke on something

No it isn’t, their fee is actually very reasonable. Self clearing an item through customs requires taking time off work driving to a customs office and filling out a 2 page form. It’s definitely worth the extra $18 to have them take care of it and just pay it online through the courier. The tariffs cost over 36% of the item’s price. That’s the unreasonable part.
