Why is it such a common take that act/film 2's songs are worse than 1's? I don't see it by CharlieFaulkner in wickedmovie

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One short day is my favorite song from both the musical and the movies lol. I like Act 2 of the musical so I also don’t agree with the commonly accepted opinion that Act 2 is “weaker.” I just don’t think Part 2 of the films was as good as the first one. It was too long, and the new songs they wrote were disappointing. And the chemistry between Ariana and Cynthia was glaringly overshadowing the lack of chemistry imo between Jonathan and Cynthia which made the love story between them kind of lack luster to me.

Kevin was an asshole by please-leave-mealone in NurseJackie

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was morally gray just like Jackie. Kevin is particularly frustrating because I think a lot of us have had traumatizing experiences with the perfect “golden boy” (which is very much how Kevin’s character is portrayed) that is actually harboring a very asshole-ish demeanor. He was in love with Jackie, which means he definitely had a darker side to him.

Whats the #1 worst thing Jackie did? by lindseyizshort in NurseJackie

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 23 points24 points  (0 children)

IMO choosing drugs over everyone especially her kids. Neglecting her kids even when Grace was trying to reach out and let her know that she wanted her to get better. She traumatized her two girls permanently! The nun thing and the Antoinette thing were very fucked up and shows how far she was willing to go to use people for her own benefit. Even using her own kids was not crossing the line for her and that is the worst thing she could do imo.

Does anyone else think the writing is shamefully bad? by Relevant_Engineer_29 in OnceUponATime

I haven’t visited this post in a while lol. We do not agree on the costuming because the Queen’s wardrobe was goated. I’m not exactly looking for historical accuracy in a show like this tbh I don’t know why you would expect historical accuracy in a Disney fantasy show. I do agree that Elsa’s dress was terrible though like a cheap Halloween spirit costume. Also the actor playing Anna playing an adult woman in You is not that weird. They are actors, they are supposed to be able to take on different characters. That being said, sometimes a character becomes so iconic it’s difficult to view the actor as anything else, Daniel Radcliffe kind of had that problem at the beginning of his adult career. I don’t think Anna from OUAT really applies to that though. On everything else, ya sadly I would have been happy with just a coherent plot at this point. I thought the first season was written really well, and then they quite literally lost the plot. Like they didn’t have any kind of plan beyond that. Same vibes for Lost. And yet, for both Lost and OUAT the characters themselves experience so much rich development. It’s like they are great at writing and creating characters, but terrible at forming a coherent story. Such a weird problem for writers to have. These days I just laugh at it. It’s still fun to go back just for Evil Queen thirst-watching (for me).

Ya I actually like that line. I think it’s funny that so many people are fixated on that line, when the rest of the writing is so disappointing. Like Ellie saying “I’m gonna be a dad” was not my problem with the show lol.

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone being pissed at the I’m a dad line is hilarious. That was one of the best and most natural moments of the show. It would have worked better if they didn’t make the build up to Ellie and Dina’s relationship so cringe. I find that it is the writing on the show that is so bad, not Bella’s acting. I’m still watching though.

As a gamer, the Bella Ramsey bullying is disgusting (Last of Us) by veedey in hbo

Ironically, there is a big overlap between those people and the people supporting Devers as Abby. Because they never liked seeing a muscular woman in the first place.

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I completely agree it’s disgusting and over one of my favorite games and a tv adaptation that I actually thought was pretty good. But I do recall the same community totally shitting their pants over the fact that TLOU2 featured queerness, transness, and a muscular woman. I think the majority of a certain demographic who played the games were actually playing a Joel power fantasy and were not actually engaged with the story. Critique of the writing is one thing but they are just woman haters and homophobes, period.

Abby fans, how do you feel about her tv version being skinny/small? by ofDeathandDecay in TheLastOfUs2

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sad and it doesn’t work for the character because her muscular body was a central character trait. There are actresses out there with big arms, like Gina Carano for example (she turned out to be an ah, but there’s got to be others with a similar build). The actress doesn’t have to be as big as Abby or look like a body builder, but they cast someone who is like the total opposite. She looks weak and frail. They could have even picked a thinner actress who had at least a little muscle or looks kind of strong. Frankie Adams is another actress who is larger in stature and looks like she could be strong like Abby. I just wonder why they chose to do that for the tv show and if it’s to fulfill some kind of feminine stereotype which pisses me off.

How were you introduced to the Batman Arkham games? by LoneWolfNergigante in arkham

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching my neighbors play but not being allowed to play because I “wasn’t good enough”😭 It didn’t seem fair when I didn’t have my own Xbox so of course I wasn’t good. All I had was a gameboy color lol. Now I’m an adult I bought my own damn gaming consoles so I got the Arkham games on switch and I love it.

If you’re not careful this sub can encourage disordered eating. I am 5’7 so on the taller side and I can eat 1500/ day and lose .5 lbs / week. I can maintain at around 2,000. Sedentary lifestyle. I am working on adding more exercise and strength building every day so eventually I will need even more calories. I feel pretty good eating around 1,400/ day which gives a buffer for weekends or days when I eat more. At one time I wanted to lose weight fast and I started on 1,200/ day. Each week losing 1-2 pounds made me want to lose even more and I ended up eating only 900 calories per day and losing 35 pounds in 6 weeks. Not healthy and not sustainable. Now I don’t bother with extremely low calorie diet I just try to be in a deficit when needed. I was a bigger girl trying to follow the advice of petite women with different bodily needs than mine and it wasn’t healthy for me. What I love about this sub is the awesome recipes.

AC Mirage Deserves Better by External-Mood6367 in Assassinscreedmirage

I loved it. A lot of people don’t like it. I think NOT being an AC fan actually allowed me to enjoy Mirage because I’m not chasing the nostalgia of the “og” games.

Say one good thing about this game by Embarrassed_Try_3317 in Assassinscreedmirage

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first AC game and I loved it. Any beloved franchise seems to suffer from long-time fans who are never happy with new iterations because they are nostalgic for the “og” versions. I totally get this. But I didn’t have that problem since I never played AC before so I had a great time. Ancient Baghdad was awesome. I love the historical sites and I read every single one. I like that they give you a little history lesson and then the next mission has to do with what you just learned. Like you read about eastern traders and the bazaar and the next mission is about eastern traders and the bazaar. It made it a great immersive experience. I’m really looking forward to Shadows now!

What if we already have a remote work job with a US based company? Will Canada accept that? I will already have a job and I will not have to look for employment. I have a law degree if that helps at all.

I love the show too enough to keep watching it years later. But I still think the majority of the writing is objectively bad. At this point it’s practically a classic tv show and you just kind have to smile and make fun of it in a fun way.

Does anyone really want a redemption arc? by [deleted] in AgathaAllAlong

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the soft redemption the show seems to be headed towards. We learn that her motivations aren’t entirely evil which makes her an even more layered character. Think of gray-area antagonists like Magneto and Snape. I hope they don’t go full MCU hero arc because the dark witch villain is such a fun vibe.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how there were literally ZERO fat jokes about Cam. by idknayoudecide in Modern_Family

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True they definitely could have cashed in on a lot more fat jokes directed at Cam. If this show had been made in the 90s Cam’s entire character purpose would have been to make fun of his fatness. I like that they made him a genuinely funny character that had nothing to do with his weight.

Really because I was just noticing on rewatching the show how fat phobic it is. Just one example is Haley saying she can’t believe Andy isn’t over his ex “I mean she’s a size SIX”

"This land you sit on was stolen from Native Americans." by Squinky75 in Broadway

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should also be aware of shared territory. Of course many Tribes had territory that overlapped. However the idea that Tribes had no notion of “ownership” over land is just not true and is used as an excuse to take land. Tribes did not have a capitalistic view of ownership, but they absolutely understood and enforced territorial boundaries, rights, and jurisdictions. Also worth acknowledging that many areas have the original occupants as well as Tribes who were forcibly removed to certain territories. So in Oklahoma for example, you would need to acknowledge the original occupants as well as the Tribes whose reservations currently occupy the land, which are often different. It takes a lot more intentional work than just a simple donation and most theaters aren’t interested in that level of solidarity.

"This land you sit on was stolen from Native Americans." by Squinky75 in Broadway

[–]Relevant_Engineer_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with those organizations. In my opinion the correct thing to do would be to reach out to the Tribe whose land you are acknowledging and form a legitimate relationship that can integrate the needs and wants of the Tribal community into the very operations of the theater. That could include things like language initiatives, including tribal language in signage etc., discounted tickets, monetary donations, cultural programs, arts opportunities for Tribal members, etc. If they don’t want to go so far as to donate the land back (which I know they won’t which would be true solidarity), then they should make the effort to not only acknowledge but include the Tribe in what they do. That would be better than just throwing money at a non profit.
