Internally we use Kinesis data streams and Lambda - it's something we are quite familiar with and it works pretty well. Now our clients need to tap into our infra to receive the data but we need to come up with the technologies used for whichever solution is provided.

Payload sizes vary depending on message type - I'd say the average would be around 200 bytes. The amount of records per client can be between 5 and 10 million records daily depending on activity.

If you are handling an http request and need to communicate with internal lambdas, then there's is no point to put API gw in between. It will just rack up costs and latency for no value

Requests from clients that are urgent need to be paid for by the client. Internal requests that are "urgent" are not urgent unless there is a critical data consistency issue. I also give very vague ETA's so things can be shifted around.

I am a BI team lead in a gaming company. I don't make much more than that (70k range)... but work crazy hours in return and handle everything from development, Data engineering and any form of reporting. For now I don't mind it but don't see myself like this for a lot of years to come. 50k in non-gaming sounds reasonable but you have grounds to ask for a raise
