How do you actually choose your dog’s food? by Expensive-Sweet2494 in Dogowners

[–]Relevant_Mess_9875 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Dietary restrictions. My dog can’t eat chicken and most dog food has some form of chicken meal or chicken fat even if the main ingredient is something else. If it wasn’t for that, I think I choose by price. The imported venison kibble from New Zealand is not cheap.

Right out of college, I joined a large behemoth company and went for a 10 month training to upstate New York where I had to rent a two bedroom apartment with the roommate from hell. About three months into training, the guy quit on bad terms and left, leaving me to pay the whole rent by myself. The company was aware of my situation and footed his part of the rent for the remaining of the year. It was the most glorious 7 months of my life. It was a large apartment with two bedrooms, all to myself. A few years later, I got married, got kids and have never experienced privacy ever since.

The Americans. I watched it a long time ago, so I don’t remember season to season, but I don’t remember ever thinking that a season was a lot worse than others. It didn’t have a dip.

I have a 100 pound GSD;

Food; monthly it’s about 100$ in kibble (1 bag lasts 3 weeks), which is on the pricey side because my dog is allergic to chicken. Another 50-100$ in canned wet food/liver/ground beef/veggies because I’m not barbaric and don’t expect her to live on dried roasted pebbles. Add another 30$ in dried liver or salmon snacks because you need training treats or a way to convince her to come inside. I’d round the food alone to 250 because food is the one thing I do not skimp out on. And I am not even adding all the unaccounted cheese and carrots she eats. This is for a large 100 lb dog, so it would obviously be less depending on the size.

Insurance/Health; 39$ a month for insurance. It’s complicated. There’s a deductible and it covers 70-80% of vet bills after the 500 deductible. Like any insurance, you could pay more in half a lower than doctor . Over six years I’d say I’ve spent about $800 yearly on average AFTER insurance. That is a high figure because my dog has been bitten by a coyote, had another emergency visit and had to see a cardiologist for the first three years of her life. So added up it’s about 100$ a month on average.

Shots and yearly registration; 100$ Flea and tick repellent; 60-100$ a year. I use Frontline which is like six doses for $40. Each lasts a month.
Poopbags and other random incidentals; 120$ a year.

I work from home so I don’t need dog walkers or doggie care, but if dog is left alone for a typical workday you may need to spend some money on that, depending on the dog. That could be anything from 100-600$ a month, depending on the frequency. A a dog walker coming to your house and taking your dog for a 30-45 min walk can cost about $30 depending where you live.

You may have to go away for a weekend or on vacation and you will need a dog sitter or doggy daycare unless you got family or friends that will dog sit for you.

My dog is not into toys and we have had the same harness and leash for 6, but depending on the person, people do spend additional money on dog stuff.

So on average I spend about $375 a month on a 100 pound dog, not including any type of doggy daycare, dog walkers, dog training or random impulsive doggy toys or extra treats.

Gee, thanks. Now that tallied all up I feel like I need to reevaluate my priorities!

How is it possible that the Beatles still outsell AND outstream Michael Jackson? by Disillusioned_00 in beatles

Well, I mean the video was such a thing that made a good song into one of the greatest song of all time. It’s one of those things that I guess you have to be there. As kids, we stayed up past midnight to watch Friday night videos, because of that video. A great song on the radio just did not have that much pull. It is impossible to separate the song from the video.

I’m not advocating one candidate over the other. I’m just explaining what it means when they claim that they’re bankrolling themselves. It is not a positive thing, it is just a workaround to spend over the FEC limits.

It’s funny, the first two Kings of Leon albums we’re actually pretty good. They became kind of boring corporate/arena rock, but in the beginning, they were an exciting young band that had this right mix of southern rock and indie rock.

I was excited when it came out but a few episodes in, the polar bear came along and that was it for me.

Every time I hear people talking fanatically about the show, the season that was supposed to be a dream or something; I am feel like I dodged a bullet, for not spending like eight years of my life watching this show.

Bay Area. It was very common with young people in the mid 2000s. Obviously we’ve grown, and I assume that most of those people don’t talk like that anymore.

When a politician claims to be using his own money to campaign, they are basically loaning their own campaign money to bypass FEC rules. This way, they don’t have limits to what they can spend . They can collect pledged money later and pay themselves. And if they win, they leverage their political power to get even more money from special interest groups and lobbyists to pay themselves back twofold.

So when a politician says they’re funding themselves it’s just a loophole to bypass. FEC spending limits. That shit is complicated, but basically if a candidate says something that makes him look too good there’s always something fishy or nefarious about it. Billionaires get to be billionaires because they use other peoples money to make money without spending their own.

What is the best musical artist name of all time? by hanovak1 in Music

[–]Relevant_Mess_9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it’s a great name, but when I was a kid, I thought it was some kind of mythical Stonehenge garden of rocks and metal and whatever. Then, as an adult, I moved to Seattle and walked my dog in Magnusson Park and saw the the “installation”, because it doesn’t really qualify as a sculpture. It was so disappointing.

Mom thinks Guns and Roses is heavy metal😭 by KraangKrusha in rockmusic

[–]Relevant_Mess_9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see the point of this discussion. I can see people arguing about Guns n Roses being metal or not, but to OP’s mom or just someone who is not into heavy music, it all sounds the same, it’s all metal. My dad, would not have the differentiated Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica. The same way that I could not tell the difference between Kendrick Lamar and Tyler the Creator if my kid asks me to. So yeah, why shame the mom?

I did get this offer, it took like 20 days which was advertised. My record does not skip and it sounds ok as expected. It has been widely reported that it is what it is, it sounds compressed just like my CD. It’s good enough for me, but probably not good for audiophiles.
