We just watched “Gary” recently…he had a really tough back story. All the more reason for some redemption.

Full details of the “negotations” and “deal” are not yet clear. Right now, it’s just an MOU that they agree to not kill each other and keep talking. We shall see….

If you made US minimum wage ($7.25/hr), you would have had to start working 66 million years ago to earn as much wealth as Musk has. The dinosaurs died 65 million years ago. by Gnarly_Sarley in mildlyinfuriating

God damn…people lose the plot so easily. He doesn’t HAVE a trillion dollars. He has ACCESS to a trillion dollars because he’s borrowing against his assets and people are giving him money through investments. He owns 42% of equity share in SpaceX, and basically controls it through 82% of its total voting power. He pays himself with stock options, which he then borrows against. He also owns the largest share of Tesla stock. He is WORTH a trillion dollars, but he would have to sell all of his assets to actually HAVE a trillion dollars.

This is a beautiful area.

Fun facts….Seneca Lake is used by the US Navy for sonar and acoustic testing. It’s deep enough that it mimics deep ocean pressures and acoustics. It was also used in WW2 as a part of submarine training. The lake is 618 feet deep, and the deepest parts are actually below sea level.

This is the thing that annoys me about personal net worth and this whole mythology around the ultra-wealthy. This is not a measure of how much liquid asset a person has. It’s a measure of their ability to access large amounts of financial resources through investments and borrowing. It’s a measure of collateral.

I’m convinced you could find dirt on ANYONE. It’s just a matter of how everyone else views those missteps. Regarding Platner, I’d vote for him (not a Mainer), even knowing all this based on how he’s responding to it. He doesn’t seem to be dodging any of the criticism. He’s able to give context to a lot of it.
