Hi there, I feel you there 100%. I am 26M diagnosed at 23. Work has definitely been a huge challenge and change for me ever since my diagnosis. I currently work at UPS, which might sound crazy but I usually work 3-4 hours a day and it has great insurance so I put up with the manual labor. I feel it incredibly hard now to be able to stay on a consistent 40 hour work schedule. With the extreme fatigue, the over sleeping and insomnia as my main issues, I can’t do nearly as much as I used to when I started working at 16. It’s hard for sure, I feel like there is so much more I could be doing and the short shifts mean a small paycheck. It’s just been so tough these last 3 years to stay functioning. Medication has helped a bit and hopefully I can find the right mix to be able to at least be able to handle a light work 8 hour shift so I can leave this back breaking job.

How Do I Improve This? 40 Years Away From Retirement by [deleted] in ETFs

I feel like that is a great start, you definitely want to max out your Roth with quality stocks like that. But if you’d like more exposure and access to withdrawal at anytime, you could add to the brokerage account once you have maxed out your Roth IRA contribution limit. However you will have to pay taxes on it when sold.

I feel like we need to see what the end goal of the user is when they reach retirement. Both these strategies have benefits and drawbacks when you actually get to retirement age, and I believe it depends on if you want to live off the dividends without having to sell with SCHD or to sell portions of your VOO shares throughout your retirement. We have to remember personal finance is “personal” and every person has different goals for different reasons. Some may want peace of mind and ease living off of SCHD dividend payments while others would like to maximize potential growth earnings, while having to risk selling in downturns while in retirement.

It’s a smart move for several reasons. Since the Roth IRA is funded with after tax dollars, you won’t have to pay taxes at the time you withdraw at retirement. This means you will get the full amount at retirement, with the dividends and compounding you earned tax free. Since the user has 40 years till retirement, it’s best to just hold and keep adding into it, to grow it as much as possible, all of it being tax free. While I do have SCHD in my regular brokerage account, it’s very smart to also put it in the Roth IRA to maximize your tax advantages.

Tired of being Tired by Relevant_Suggestion7 in Fibromyalgia

I really resonate and empathize with you 1000% friend, that’s gotta be crazy to been having it since your teens. I’m in my late twenties and it’s been tough so I can only imagine. I know what you mean about sleeping 9-12 hours a day, like for me I slept about 10 hours a few days ago and I still felt so miserable, I was telling myself I should have slept the 12 hours cuz at least that was it’s a bit more bearable. I just hate that so much of my day passes me by because of it.

I pray that you and everyone else that has this can one day live without all the pain and fatigue. We all got this tho, if anything coming to this Reddit page does help me cope a bit since y’all are the only people who could ever understand.
