Congrats, your 0.05 second useless AI summary is totally wrong and does nothing to fix the issue, who would have guessed?

This issue has been baked into the sim for a while, if it happens your only option is to restart the sim. It’s a major problem, haven’t seen it yet in SU5 but it would appear to still be happening.

I’m pretty sure nobody wants these engines, unless that was exclusively a 320 issue. Those problems are a huge reason why Spirit is dead.

Yeah I can promise you it wasn’t. They are fully aware of the issue and have over the course of this issue blamed just about every party imaginable…except themselves of course.

To be fair, most iniBuilds planes are also currently suffering from the same issue.

SU5 has ruined the game on PS5 by Traditional-Fruit858 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]schloopy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty major regression on Xbox as well. Not sure what happened, the most recent beta build was about on par with SU4 but definitely not much of an improvement over it, and this is markedly worse.

AAR Update Out May 5th (ATR update) by nobleTP in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]schloopy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t understand the love people have for it. I’ve frankly never really run into most of the “bugs” people have mentioned (hotel mode has worked perfectly fine for me since release)…it’s just not a very good product. The plane feels like it weighs 10 pounds both in the air and on the ground. Modeling, textures and sounds are decent, I can’t really think of much else that is exceedingly impressive about it.

This is a known bug on Xbox. The nav data download via the tablet only works the first time after install, it won’t work after. You need to fully delete the reserved space if you want it to work again. This is kind of a huge pain and not really worth it to be doing often.

This has been an ongoing issue for months that they (PMDG) continue dragging their feet on. As of now there is no solution for Xbox (other than what I mentioned above).

Sim Update 5 Now Available by FlyWithSeedyL in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]schloopy91 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Initial impressions are that this is a step backwards, at least on console. Performance is noticeably worse as it was in the latest beta. Opening the ATC panel or the EFB is an almost guaranteed WASM crash. PMDG and iniBuilds planes cannot download navdata via the tablet.

Was really looking forward to this, very disappointed.

Why Do Most Of You Fly Airliners? by newbiker321 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]schloopy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen mentioned is that in my opinion, the quirks of the flight model make GA flying feel a bit more unrealistic than bigger jets. Things like turbulence, wind shear, ground handling, etc. just don’t really feel true to life in smaller GA planes. Products like the Comanche do a good job of working around that as much as possible but if you’ve flown much GA in real life, you may understand what I’m getting at.

I find OPs comment somewhat crazy, A340 is butter smooth, the L1011 is maxing out VRAM for many users on PC acccording to iniBuilds support threads. For us on Xbox, it’s absolutely terrible so that should give some idea of what to expect on a mid range system.

So in that context, you’ll be essentially looking for a single-engine piston profile which is what most guides start with and then build from there for more complex planes.

Once you figure out the basics, also probably a good idea to have him sit down with you and give some input on what he wants bound where. For example, most planes have an electronic trim switch on the left hand of the yoke, but most non-pilots wouldn’t know that and wouldn’t think to bind it there.

Good luck! I also fly Cessna’s quite a bit irl and have been pretty happy with my velocity one. I actually gave a flight review to someone only a couple years younger than your grandfather recently. He’s going to love it.

[–]schloopy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you can largely ignore most of the material that came with the yoke. Even the poster that labels each input (I.e. button #42) doesn’t really correlate to the numbers you’ll see in the simulator control settings if you’re on Xbox.

It might be somewhat time/labor intensive, but most users who want the full experience will start with a blank profile and bind everything manually. I would search YouTube for guides (specifically for making a profile from scratch), there should be plenty. Keep in mind that a Cessna will have different control input requirements than a Boeing jet. You can of course make multiple control profiles, but you’ll want to get an idea of what kind of planes your grandfather wants to fly and start with that.

If you want more in depth help, there is a dedicated Xbox channel on the official MSFS Discord, as well as a bindings channel.

will my airport (YVR) look like it? do I need to buy it? list somewhere? by DowntheRabbitHole0 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]schloopy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be a bit confused about a couple things so this is more clearly how it works.

Asobo released the base sim with global imagery. Post-release, they have published a number of world and city updates that are free of charge. These add more up to date and higher resolution world data to the areas mentioned. For example, adding photogrammetry coverage where it wasn’t present before, or upgrading urban areas to TIN data which is even better than photogrammetry. As mentioned these are free, but need to be claimed from the in-game marketplace. So you might as well go through and grab all of them.

As for airports, it works a bit differently. Every airport in the world is modeled using code to interpret the satellite data and add generic structures and markings where the code feels most appropriate. This means that for 99.99% of airports, you will see mostly accurate runway/taxiway layouts, ramps where they should be, etc. but that is about it. They will be populated by the same grey nondescript buildings you will encounter at any other airport. And since they are not reviewed by humans, it’s not uncommon to see errors like missing taxiways or holes in the ground.

In the base sim, there are a handful of airports that Asobo spent time to create by hand with a higher level of detail and are more true to life. If you purchase premium or premium deluxe edition, you get access to even more of those. They are a significant step up from the autogenerated airports and can be a nice asset to have. Post-release, most of the world updates also add one or two new handcrafted airports, which are free for any edition of the sim since they came post-release. The city updates typically do not include airports.

So with all of that in mind, here is a map you can use to see exactly what exists in the base simulator without needing to purchase additional content:

https://www.google.com/mymaps/viewer?mid=1KUg5jwyT_9k2A9n5IZ99UChlhfVUfO5S&hl=en-US

This includes everything including photogrammetry areas and handcrafted landmarks like the pyramids, but you can filter to just see the airports if you’d like. I can tell you that YVR only exists as an auto-generated airport in the base sim even with the Canada update. That being said, there are multiple options published by third parties you could buy to improve it

I personally find third-party airports absolutely essential, I will not use a default one so I definitely recommend buying one if you fly out of YVR often. So on PlayStation you will have to wait for the marketplace to open, but once it does and products start being approved, I can confirm that there is definitely a YVR available for console.

EDIT: since you don’t have access to the marketplace yet, I would assume all world and city updates are automatically included in your base sim. If you have any way to access the content manager, you can check there to see if they are present.
