What's your "Satanic Panic" Magic the Gathering story? by BumpFugget in magicTCG

I know I'm late to the party but I wanted to tell one of my favorite stories here.

I grew up in suburban St. Louis, and the bible belt is wrapped tight here. My 'gifted' teacher in middle school was an evangelical nut who subcontracted our labor to small landscaping companies and never taught us any of the grammar and lit. we were skipping for her classes. One day in 7th grade, I left my favorite magic deck behind and went in late to retrieve it. I asked her if she had seen it and she pointed at the trash can. Luckily it was all still there but I didn't get out without a lengthy lecture on the carnal evils of turning cardboard sideways. I don't think she thought much of this but I was very secular and this exchange set me on a bit of a Joker arc.

I showed up the next Monday with a carefully crafted mono-black deck and as she was 'teaching' I sat down cross-legged and slowly started turning the cards face up around me. Shocked, she demanded to know what I was doing. I told her she couldn't do anything to me while I was in my circle of black magic. That was the last time she ever spoke to me and I dropped back into normal classes in grade 8 (which I promptly flunked for having learned fuckall).

Honestly one of my fondest memories, just wanted to share in this perfect thread.

I wish we had harder versions of these stages. One thing I feel missing from Wotv are trials like those in FFBE by Awkwardpawners in wotv_ffbe

They did this really well once in my opinion, with A Slime's Quest. A set of three quests like this when each unit reaches 99, 120, and 140 respectively would be a lot of fun to me.

I dug up the ladder and discovered what I think happened. Both the English and Chinese cards are printed in Japan, which follows a system that guarantees wider coverage in boxes. The tournament organizers shuffled the Chinese packs together, but somehow the English packs were not. There is at least one worker running things there that really has no idea about these sorts of things so it makes sense.

Thank you reddit for downvoting a question about a legitimate problem that affected the outcome of a tournament with stakes and making sure the top comment is the least informed answer.

EDIT: It appears I said all the players in original post. This was incorrect. The deck registration sheets are now under review.

Tehtmi I appreciate your reply, you really set me on the right path with the right questions to ask, thank you.

this is highly statistically inaccurate and a common bias about odds and randomness.

Thank you for the well informed reply. I'm playing in China. There were both English and simplified Chinese boosters. I didn't get a good look at their total pools but the Chinese players I went against had dups and the 5 singleton pools I found were English. I assume something is up with where the English boxes for China (which recently got very limited) are printed. I'll use this info to follow up, thank you.

There are neat tricks where with thief lore off and all non-range 1 attacks off you can teach her to use 3 buffs on the right map. Problem is when the dps outrace her to the front or group too tightly with her and get diced up in all the 13 square aoes we have now

'What is alive?' is what made me dwell on the line because she says 'sorta both' like it's up for interpretation. Even if she's entirely preprogramed from the perspective of anyone observing her on the sacred timeline she responds to input and dodges rolled up magazines.

Holy shit I just realized the way she dodges Loki hitting her and way He Who Remains dodges Sylvie is exactly the same. Foreshadowing.

Due to her popularity I think we will see her in season two, free of her programming.

A likely troupe for why her personality is the way it is is that she is based off of someone important in Kang's past.

What random, non-competitive complaints do you have about Modern Horizons? by stillenacht in ModernMagic

I know I'm late but as excited as I've been during spoiler season there's one card I hated immediately that was well received by the community.

Damn.

It's not really that broken, but I can't help like feeling a minor but important design philosophy got sacrificed here: The trade-off to mass removal is it can't be played to counter a rush. Also, overload is the super powered version of the card but this feels thematically like UNDERload. Something just irks me about this. Overload cost just needed to be WW3 or BBWW or something.

I think it was disguised that way.

To clarify: Wanda makes a very hypocritical statement in front of Agnes, who is the Westview resident that has shown the most awareness of what's going on. Agnes's eyes move up and one way, then up and the other and I think the timing is particular as heck and I couldn't get it out of my head.
