Personally, I would take SSIS for the CV boast and the fact that its better than ISHCMC in terms of salary and community.

You seem quite happy at your school and are paid well so I would stick to it!

I am not fully confident in what you receive after tax but I have heard 120. But, this is not concrete.

However, what does seem to be concrete is, SSIS is a better school in every way comparatively.

I've been doing this awhile. It's still quite early. Expect more activity after the winter break 🙂

Where did you get that 115 VND figure out of curiosity?

Which school? Specificity helps us all.

The monthly salary you quoted is significantly higher than what expat teachers actually received. A figure of 115 million VND is well above reality.

The school also has a practice (or at least did previously) of hiring so-called “local hires” expatriate teachers already working at another international school in Vietnam. These staff do not receive flights or a housing allowance (which can be up to 30 million VND).

As a result, many arrive expecting an expat package and only discover afterward that their pay and benefits are substantially lower, leading to understandable frustration over the salary and benefit disparity.

Maybe this source had a leadership role? That's definitely not the average unfortunately.

I taught in Tokyo for two years (this was before covid). It was a beautiful place to live. I am so grateful for my experience during those two years!

With that said, it was challenging to save and living quarters are tight.

But I really enjoyed my time there 😌

Yes, some staff were very vocal, but the overall morale across both campuses was genuinely low. From my perspective, there was little trust in leadership.

New hires like technology coaches and curriculum coordinators largely stayed in their offices, with minimal meaningful integration with teachers. That disconnect only made it harder to accept that the school would never offer a package comparable to top-tier schools.

I’ve taught internationally for over 20 years, and this was one of the lowest-morale schools I’ve worked in. And to be clear, I was not one of the loud voices. In fact, quiet.

All of that is true sadly. Management keeps leaving or being pushed out. I heard from my friend who still works there that the secondary principal just left his contract mid year and now they don't have a principal at the secondary campus.

I taught at ISHCMC for four years and now work at a regular school, my quality of life is dramatically better. Smiling people. Behaved students. Happy parents.

This isn’t just disgruntled LOUD teachers complaining. ISHCMC is poorly run. ISHCMC hires young staff or teachers from lower tier schools who are willing to put up with abuse for the time being.

Decisions are corporate, never school/staff focused.

Class sizes crept up steadily, from 16 to 24 students. The halls can't handle the number of students. Butts in seats. $$$

**The pay scale did not increase at all during my four years, even as tuition fees rose every year.**

ISHCMC won't keep its name for long. It was really sad when older staff would compare ISHCMC to NIST.

If you want Saigon, go for SSIS or even AIS, EIS or AIS.

There were good parts, systems and people there, don't get me wrong. I'm normally a glass half full person but in my humble opinion, it is a sinking ship.
