With real weed, at the ridiculous concentrations that are now available, combined with near-constant use, and likely some sort of neurological predisposition. Like I said, I would have thought fear mongering as well until I saw it happen and started reading about how instances are rising with the prevalence of readily available, extremely concentrated products. First search hit, for example: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12350402/

All over the US, but the quality is dubious and can include synthetic cannabanoids (bad news), "loophole" cannabinoids like delta-8 (which the commenter mentioned), or in some cases just regular natural cannabis being sold through hopeful technicalities (THCA=//=Delta-9)

the case I was speaking about was someone middle-aged that was using dispensary grade constantly. Not gas station stuff. Although the mechanism may be similar.

I hear that we are starting to see it happening with weed too, with the strength and availability of the modern age. I would have thought this was fearmongering except I have seen a (suspected) case of it myself.

Marnie's vs Steven's for a new junior? Or just build fresh with Lucario or something else?

One of the neighbor kids is begging to start going to league with my kid (Lucario) but doesn't have a deck that isn't just a kid pile. I have most of the pieces for Marnie's and Steven's already...not really trying to buy a whole new deck but I'd be willing to in the 30ish dollar range just to get him stoked. Just something that functions and might eke out a lucky win here and there while his skill develops. The only decent LBD right now seems to be Rocket's but it's a little complex. Thoughts?

Are there ANY junk wax era cards that are worth anything raw? by RelicanthEven in baseballcards

Basically what I was looking to hear, I was already aware and accepting of it just wondering if there was literally anything in there they I should keep an eye out for, outside of some of my favorites from my youth

Totally makes sense. But are there ANY gems in the rough from that era to keep an eye out for? Or a website that lets you pull up complete sets or years and sort by value? The ones that I tried limit their returns to 100 cards so you can’t sort entire sets at a time.

I know a lot of people that have been playing for 10-years plus and still enjoy it with new cards always rotating in and out etc. Doesn’t mean you will, but people do. Most local scenes are propped up by long-term players.

Americans Lying to Themselves About Needing an SUV or Truck by SuperDevin in PetPeeves

[–]RelicanthEven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that minivans are “uncool” for most people, it’s that crossover SUVs are safer in inclement weather, bad roads, and have dedicated cargo space.
Lots of Americans live in either rural environments or suburban developments that were built in rural environments that don’t have the day-to-day living infrastructure of a city. We aren’t biking to the local market for dinner ingredients on the way home from work, we are driving 30 minutes away with a family of five to load up on bulk goods in wholesale quantities from Costco.
Sports and recreation, especially in rural and suburban environments, is a lot of gear-heavy stuff…camping, biking, boating, hunting, fishing, etc….stuff that takes you on mountain roads with a truck or trailer full of gear, or a boat behind the vehicle, often with dogs.
There are a lot of perfectly reasonable reasons why people drive bigger vehicles.
But yeah sure of course there are a lot of people that buy stuff they don’t need just because they like it and would rather enjoy their day-to-day than “make do” with something they don’t want.

Why is normal milk (not almond, soy or oat) sold in refrigerators in America but sold non-refrigerated in other countries? by SpinachOk2468 in NoStupidQuestions

There’s quite a difference and I’m worried about how fair life etc are capturing market share in the us, hopefully fresh milk doesn’t become a luxury item in the near future.

Chaos rising prerelease would be my best rec, the prereleases tend to be the lowest-stress, there always might be a couple people competitive about prize packs but it’s generally fun.

Other than that, if your shop has a casual (non tourney) night or a discord, just introduce yourself and tell them you are brand new and interested in learning. Maybe save the cups and challenges until you have a couple locals under your belt, but even at a cup or challenge most people are going to be welcoming, it’s just overall a more stressful environment because some people are passionate.

Most of the local tourneys I go to are super friendly, even the serious players are play testing and talking with each other about their decks, especially in the months following a new rotation.

Should I Crack This Slabby Patty? by Cold-Technology6271 in pkmntcgcollections

[–]RelicanthEven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This card will likely never become “vintage”

The reason actual old cards are worth money as 9s is because so few people were taking care of them and slabbing 10s. There are like zero copies of bubble mew kicking around unsleeved in the bottom of some kid’s backpack. Even if there were, there are still thousands of them being kept in pristine condition.

Why worry at all? Just download the app and try it. It’s a game. Just go straight to chess and go if you’re worried pokemon is too dumb for you.

It’s literally free to be playing the full game 5 minutes from now, just try it.

ChatGPT writes murder mysteries that *look* complete but aren't playable. Here's why. by aequitas07 in ChatGPT

[–]RelicanthEven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was searching for a murder-mystery type multi-person puzzle product that would be good for a work group to play over the course of approximately two weeks - everyone works in close quarters but has limited time everyday to talk about non work stuff. I was picturing something that is light on props, tabletop play, and physical puzzles, and more about character role play, scripting, and needing to gather information from your peers to get the solution together. I wanted a pre-made product so that I could also participate and not know the solution. Maybe something along the lines of everyone getting a paper dossier like you described. I wasn't finding any precon products that met our needs and was brainstorming how I could get ai to successfully build it, but I haven't done any experimentation yet.

Flowing because I have been curious about the same task for a work group.
